Summary
About the Position: This position works within the Resource Management Division/UBO of a Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) in the Lyster Army Health Clinic. The position is in a standard office setting working 40 hours/wk, involving mostly sedentary work with computers, software, and telephones. The applicant can expect to play a vital role in the financial health of the facility.

Duties
Help
  • Serves as a Medical Insurance Technician in the Resource Management Divisionof the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF).
  • The Third Party Collection Program (TPCP) creates financial records of transactions including accounts receivable management requiring the incumbent to use independent judgment and initiative in accomplishment of the work.
  • Work is performed by using numerous manual and automation systems and software programs necessary for the TPCP.
  • Third Party Collection (TPC) account assignments include identifying sources of reimbursable earnings and ensuring accurate billing, collection, deposit, and reporting of these earnings.
  • The incumbent advises the supervisor of unusual trends for non-payment by insurance companies and provides input for analytical and evaluative methods to improve the TPCP.
  • Analyzes Accounts Receivable for assigned claims in a timely manner to determine the status of claims errors or obstacles that could delay/prevent payment.

  • The incumbent must complete training and meet position requirements for certification at Level 1 within 2 years of appointment. Failure to obtain and maintain this certification within the required time may subject the incumbent to adverse action.

  • This position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.

Qualifications
Who May Apply: US Citizens
In order to qualify, you must meet the education and or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document.
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes performing routine claims processing, data entry, and basic follow-ups in systems like ABACUS or MHS Genesis; identifying and flagging simple billing discrepancies for senior review; generating standard accounts receivable reports; and have basic level of general ledger.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06)

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Medical Technology or Medical Coding.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
