What is a Remote Video Editor?

A Remote Video Editor is a professional who edits and assembles video footage into a finished product while working from a location outside a traditional office or studio. They use video editing software to cut, arrange, and enhance video content for various purposes, such as social media, marketing, film, or television. Remote Video Editors collaborate with clients and teams virtually, sharing files and feedback online. This role requires strong technical skills, creativity, and the ability to manage projects independently.

How do remote video editors typically collaborate with producers and other team members to ensure project goals are met?

Remote video editors often use cloud-based platforms and communication tools to collaborate effectively with producers, directors, and other creative team members. Regular video calls, shared project management boards, and real-time feedback on drafts help maintain alignment and ensure the final product meets client expectations. Editors may participate in virtual team meetings to discuss project direction, troubleshoot challenges, and incorporate feedback, making strong communication skills essential in this remote role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Video Editor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Video Editor, you need expertise in video editing techniques, storytelling, and a solid understanding of visual aesthetics, often supported by experience or a degree in film, media, or a related field. Mastery of editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve is essential, and certifications in these tools can be advantageous. Strong time management, communication, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for meeting deadlines and collaborating remotely with clients or teams. These skills and qualities ensure efficient production of high-quality content that meets client expectations in a remote work environment.

What Does a Remote Video Editor Do?

Remote video editors, also called home-based editors or freelance editors, cut and realign multiple film shots into a cohesive story. While in-house editors work in the office, remote video editors perform their job duties from home or another location outside of the office. They use a variety of computer software and equipment to alter and edit images digitally. Remote video editors are in charge of taking raw film footage, pulling out the best shots that have the best sound and imagery, and putting it back together as seamlessly as possible. Other businesses outside of the film industry also use remote video editors to create promotional videos, educational and training videos, and presentations for clients.

Job description

Job Title: Social Media and Content Specialist
Location: Louisville, KY (Hybrid)

Company Overview
When you leave home each day, you take 3 things: your phone, wallet, and keys.

Each of these is a multibillion-dollar industry because everyone uses them every day. Most can be found at retail stores everywhere, but not car keys. When 275 million drivers in North America need a key, they have to go to a dealership.
Weโ€™re changing that.
Car Keys Express is the worldโ€™s leading automotive key replacement company, and we are still growing fast.
In the past decade, we have grown revenues more than 10X and have built a team of more than 1,000 across the U.S. and Canada. We operate a nationwide mobile fleet, partner with major retailers like AutoZone, Advance, and Costco, and serve both everyday drivers and large enterprise customers.
Since our founding in 2002, Car Keys Express has led nearly every major advancement in the industry, building an impressive list of worldโ€™s firsts:
  • the worldโ€™s first online store to sell car keys and remotes
  • the worldโ€™s first discount mobile key service
  • the worldโ€™s first electronic car key recycler
  • the worldโ€™s first Universal Car Remote
  • the worldโ€™s first Universal Car Key
  • the worldโ€™s first universal DIY key programmer
  • the worldโ€™s first car key replacement app
  • the worldโ€™s first car key vending machine
These breakthroughs were not accidents. They are the result of a fully integrated model that gives Car Keys Express unmatched control over design, production, and delivery.
If that sounds exciting, join us on our adventure to see which โ€œworldโ€™s firstsโ€ come next.
Position Overview
Car Keys Express is seeking a Social Media Manager amp; Content Creator who doesnโ€™t just manage accounts โ€” you build brand momentum.
This is a hands-on, high-visibility role for someone who understands platforms natively, thinks in short-form video, and is excited to consistently appear on camera as the public-facing voice of a fast-growing national brand.
You will own social media strategy (organic and paid), create and publish content, appear on camera, engage with our audience, analyze performance, and continuously refine our brand voice across platforms. This role blends strategy, creativity, analytics, and personality.

Content Creation
  • Generate creative content ideas aligned with brand voice and growth objectives
  • Capture video and photography (in-office, field shoots, retail environments, etc.)
  • Edit short-form vertical video optimized for each platform
  • Serve as the on-camera personality and brand spokesperson across social channels
  • Experiment, test, and refine creative approaches to maximize engagement
Platform Management amp; Community Engagement

  • Engage with audiences through comments, messages, and community interaction

  • Comfortable and confident appearing on camera regularly
  • Strong short-form video instincts (you know how to hook viewers in the first 3 seconds)
  • Proficiency in short-form video editing tools (CapCut, Instagram Edits, or similar)
  • Familiarity with paid social media advertising platforms (Meta, TikTok, etc.)
  • Strategic thinker who balances creativity with performance metrics
  • Self-starter with strong organizational skills
  • Able to travel locally to the office, events, and filming locations as needed
Direct Reports
  • Reports to the Director of Marketing and Communications
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience serving as an on-camera brand personality or spokesperson
  • Demonstrated success growing social channels for a consumer-facing brand
  • Advanced video editing skills
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted content creation tools
  • Experience collaborating with performance marketing teams and interpreting campaign data
  • Ability to build and manage long-term content strategies tied to broader brand initiatives
  • Experience working with consumer brands and/or coordinating with external agencies

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience
  • Opportunity for quarterly performance-based bonuses
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance plans
  • Company-sponsored 401(k) retirement plan with employer match
  • Paid vacation and holidays
  • Opportunities for professional development and career advancement
  • A supportive and inclusive work culture that values creativity, innovation, and collaboration
We are building something significant, and we are selective about who builds it with us.
Strong performance is recognized. Advancement is earned. Growth is real.
Weโ€™ve already changed how North American drivers replace car keys. Our next goal is to democratize key replacement worldwide. If you want to join a company that is still climbing, still improving, and still raising the bar, this is your opportunity.
How to Apply

In this role, you wonโ€™t just schedule posts behind a desk. Youโ€™ll be in the field, on camera, and at the center of shaping the public voice of a national automotive brand.

If you're energized by the idea of building a brand presence that feels human, sharp, and impossible to scroll past โ€” we want to hear from you.
Please submit your resume, cover letter, and portfolio showcasing your social media strategy, video content, and on-camera work.
