What is a remote VB6 developer?

Remote VB6 Developers are software professionals who specialize in maintaining, updating, and developing applications using Microsoft Visual Basic 6 (VB6) from a remote location. They typically work with legacy systems that still rely on VB6, ensuring functionality, troubleshooting issues, and sometimes migrating code to newer platforms. These developers collaborate with teams and clients via online communication tools, allowing businesses to access specialized VB6 expertise without geographic limitations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote VB6 developer?

To thrive as a Remote VB6 Developer, you need strong programming skills in Visual Basic 6, experience with legacy application maintenance, and a background in software development or computer science. Familiarity with source control systems, SQL databases, and tools like Microsoft Visual Studio is typically required. These skills ensure efficient support and modernization of legacy systems while collaborating effectively with distributed teams.

What are some common challenges faced by a remote VB6 developer, and how can they be addressed?

Remote VB6 Developers often encounter challenges related to maintaining and updating legacy code, especially since Visual Basic 6 is an older technology with limited official support. Effective communication with team members can also be challenging in a remote environment, particularly when troubleshooting complex issues. Job description

About the Role

We are seeking a Full Stack Developer to help build and modernize a remote instrument monitoring platform, transitioning from a legacy technology stack to a cloud-native environment powered by AWS ECS Fargate, React 19, .NET 8, Python, and GitHub Actions.

In this role, you will work across IoT connectivity, instrument applications, software packaging, AI agents, and cloud-based dashboards. You will have end-to-end ownership of a greenfield platform supporting hospitals and laboratories worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop IoT and instrument connectivity solutions using MQTT, AMQP, and REST APIs.
  • Build lightweight Windows/Linux edge applications for telemetry and software update enforcement.
  • Integrate instrument protocols and support migration from legacy technologies.
  • Develop installer packages using MSI/NSIS for connected and air-gapped instrument environments.
  • Build delta-update mechanisms with rollback, version detection, and audit trails.
  • Integrate software packaging into GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines in alignment with IEC 62304 requirements.
  • Build and deploy AI agents using LangGraph, MCP, or LangChain.
  • Develop RAG pipelines using instrument manuals and support knowledge bases.
  • Develop AI-powered engineering tools such as code-generation tools, PR bots, and test scaffolding.
  • Build React 19 user interfaces for dashboards, alerts, consumable tracking, and update status.
  • Develop backend services using .NET 8/C#, Python/FastAPI, REST APIs, and event-driven microservices.
  • Create automated unit, integration, and end-to-end tests for regulated software releases.
  • Collaborate across cloud, IoT, AI, software engineering, and DevOps initiatives.

Basic Qualifications

  • 2-5 years of experience developing and shipping production software.
  • Strong experience with React and TypeScript.
  • Experience with .NET/C# or Python backend development.
  • Experience with IoT protocols such as MQTT or AMQP, or with edge software integration.
  • Experience with software packaging, installers, containers, or software update agents.
  • Experience using AI development tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or Claude Code.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools and practices, preferably GitHub Actions or equivalent.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, or an equivalent field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing medical device software or working with IEC 62304, IVD, or FDA CFR 21 requirements.
  • Hands-on experience deploying production AI agents using LangGraph or MCP.
  • Experience with AWS ECS Fargate, Terraform, or Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • Experience with AngularJS, VB6, or TFS, particularly in the context of legacy-system modernization.
  • Experience handling HIPAA-adjacent data and maintaining audit trails.
  • Experience with Docker and OCI containers.
  • Experience with AWS services such as S3, SQS, and CloudWatch.
  • Familiarity with GraphQL, Next.js, TailwindCSS, FastAPI, or event-driven microservices.
