Scope of Position
This highly skilled individual, as part of the Information Technology / Global Data & Analytics team, will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing Watts' enterprise data engineering ecosystem. The Senior Data Engineer will lead the design of scalable data pipelines and data ingestion strategies that support analytics, reporting, and artificial intelligence across Watts' global business units.
This role will help drive the next generation of Watts' data platform by leveraging technologies such as Azure Fabric, Snowflake, Databricks, and the SAP ecosystem to enable advanced analytics, data governance, and scalable enterprise data solutions.
This position does not have direct reports, but will provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior and mid-level data engineers through code reviews, design reviews, and technical leadership.
This position reports to the Senior Data Architect. This role may be based in North Andover, MA (hybrid), Dallas, TX, or remote within the United States.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and architecture of large-scale data pipelines to support analytics, reporting, and AI/ML workloads.
  • Own end-to-end data ingestion frameworks, ensuring scalability, reliability, and fault tolerance across batch and streaming pipelines.
  • Define and enforce data engineering best practices including coding standards, version control, CI/CD processes, data modeling standards, and DevOps automation.
  • Develop complex ETL/ELT solutions leveraging platforms such as Databricks, ADF, LakeFlow, Informatica, Fivetran, or custom Spark-based pipelines.
  • Collaborate with enterprise architects and solution architects to align data platform strategies with business and technical roadmaps.
  • Implement robust data quality, observability, and governance frameworks including validation rules, metadata management, lineage tracking, and monitoring.
  • Integrate complex and diverse data sources including ERP systems (SAP S/4HANA), APIs, cloud systems, on-prem databases, streaming sources, and third-party tools.
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior and mid-level data engineers, including conducting code reviews and design reviews.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues by performing root cause analysis and implementing long-term fixes and preventative measures.
  • Drive automation and orchestration strategies using tools such as Airflow, ADF, LakeFlow, or Databricks Workflows.
  • Support collaboration with global teams across multiple regions and time zones to enable scalable enterprise data solutions.
  • Assume responsibility for other projects and duties as assigned by the Senior Data Architect or Company management.
  • Responsibility directly tied to Watts Values (Integrity, Accountability, Continuous Improvement, Transparency).
  • Travel Requirements: Approximately 20% travel may be required.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (in absence of degree, relevant work experience may be considered).
  • 10+ years of experience in data engineering, data lakehouse architecture, streaming data architecture, and enterprise data solutions design.
  • Expert-level knowledge of Azure platform services, including Azure Fabric and related data tools.
  • Strong hands-on experience designing and implementing data engineering solutions in Azure, Snowflake, and/or Databricks.
  • Experience integrating SAP data (S/4HANA or BW) with modern cloud data platforms.
  • Deep understanding of ETL/ELT processes, data modeling methodologies (Kimball/Inmon), data quality frameworks, and metadata management.
  • Experience providing technical mentorship and conducting code and design reviews for data engineering deliverables.
  • Understanding of and adherence to applicable laws, codes, policies, regulations, and safety practices and procedures, as applicable.
  • Must successfully establish employment eligibility and satisfactorily complete background checks and required pre-employment testing as a condition of employment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with API-driven integrations and data virtualization concepts.
  • Microsoft Azure architecture certification or other relevant certification in the cloud data domain is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
