Job description

*Telecommuting role to be performed anywhere in the U.S.

Assist in the planning, collection, and analysis of key data in order to uncover insights to help inform design decisions, product decisions, and features. Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and other design teams to plan and produce key IT enterprise products and processes.

What You Will Do:

  • Job Duties: Uncover user needs, friction points, and opportunities through the use of data analysis, generating and prioritizing insights, and creating/sharing user journeys based on data with the entire cross-functional team.
  • Plan and produce key IT enterprise products and processes and understand and take action based on key data, including limitations, resourcing, capabilities, and performance requirements.
  • Working closely with the UX Research team, assisting in planning, executing, and analysing usability tests with Red Hat products and processes, including setting up tests and either validating our understanding or uncovering key gaps and opportunities.
  • Utilize relevant Agile methodologies and tooling (e.g. Jira).
  • Build relationships and communicate with multiple cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Advocate for access to, and communicate directly with, end users to understand their pain points and needs, regarding our products and processes.
  • Interact with technical issues and reported bugs to improve products and user experiences.
  • Understand and socialize the user's end to end journey to uncover key opportunities to improve the user experience.
  • Understand and align to key industry standards around reporting, costs, and security needs in order to provide optimal user experiences with our products.

What You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in Information Science, Media Studies, Interaction Design, or related field and one (1) year of experience designing user experience for applications.
  • Must have one (1) year of experience with: at least 1 high-fidelity prototyping tools, including creating complex interactive prototypes that closely mimic final product functionalities; collaborating with engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders in an agile development environment to ensure design concepts are translated into functional products; interaction design principles and patterns, including solving complex design challenges with innovative and intuitive solutions; and using, contributing to, and improving comprehensive design systems, including working within established design systems to create cohesive user interfaces that ensure consistency across a wide range of products and platforms.
  • Must have one (1) year of visual design experience with color, typography, and layout, enabling the creation of visually appealing and coherent user interfaces.
  • Must have experience with: conducting, supporting, and analyzing user research, including usability studies, surveys, and interviews, to inform design decisions and improve user satisfaction; accessibility standards, screen reader technology, and designing inclusive user interfaces that are usable by people with a wide range of abilities; using data analytics to interpret user behavior, make evidence-based design decisions and guide KPI-oriented design improvements to the user experience; working within Agile development teams, with a strong understanding of Agile principles, practices, and frameworks; using project management and collaboration tools to track progress, manage tasks, and collaborate effectively with team members across different functions; identifying gaps in large, enterprise design systems and advocating for the evolution of these systems through the contribution of new components, patterns, and usage guidelines; documenting design decisions and contributing to the design system repository, facilitating knowledge sharing and adoption among design and development teams; leading and engaging cross-functional teams in interactive sessions that foster creativity, ideation, and problem-solving; using digital whiteboards and remote facilitation techniques to map user journeys, create wireframes, prioritize features, and develop project roadmaps collaboratively; large scale heuristic assessments of user interfaces, specifically with the Nielson Norman methodology; building component libraries in industry standard design tooling for design systems; designing and developing non-linear and highly graphical user interface elements; contributing to and working in open-source projects; designing for technical users such as developers, sysadmins, and platform engineers; designing for infrastructure-as-code projects; designing for CLI and GUI environments; and designing technical onboarding user experiences.
  • Must have design communication experience with both technical and non-technical presentations for large and small audiences.

The salary range for this position is $115,770 - $185,070 /year. Actual offer will be based on your qualifications.

Pay Transparency

Red Hat determines compensation based on several factors including but not limited to job location, experience, applicable skills and training, external market value, and internal pay equity. Annual salary is one component of Red Hat's compensation package. This position may also be eligible for bonus, commission, and/or equity. For positions with Remote-US locations, the actual salary range for the position may differ based on location but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience.
