Job description

aFit Staffing is partnering with a leading consulting organization on an exciting Indiana-based initiative focused on expanding access to healthy food through innovative SNAP/EBT technology solutions.

We are seeking an experienced EBT/SNAP POS Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support a statewide feasibility study evaluating nutrition incentive integration within retail grocery environments.

About the Project

This project will assess the feasibility of integrating nutrition incentives directly into Indiana's Hoosier Works EBT system. The goal is to help SNAP recipients automatically earn and redeem benefits for eligible fruit and vegetable purchases at participating retailers.

The study will evaluate:

  • Retail POS system readiness
  • EBT transaction processing workflows
  • Data exchange and integration requirements
  • Security and compliance considerations
  • Long-term operational sustainability

This initiative supports statewide public health and nutrition goals, including the expansion of healthy food access across Indiana communities.

Position Details
  • Position: EBT/SNAP POS SME
  • Location: Remote
  • Schedule: Part-Time
  • Estimated Hours: 8-10 hours/week

    (may increase to 12-15 hours/week during peak project phases)

  • Contract Length: Approximately 400 hours total
  • Target Start Date: August 2026 (estimated)
  • Employment Type: W2 or 1099 Contract
What You'll Do

In this role, you will provide expertise related to SNAP/EBT systems, grocery retail POS environments, and nutrition incentive program operations. Responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting feasibility assessments and technical discovery sessions
  • Evaluating current and future-state transaction and data workflows
  • Identifying operational risks and implementation considerations
  • Advising on EBT processor operations and retailer integration requirements
  • Contributing to roadmap and recommendation development
  • Collaborating with project stakeholders on system modernization concepts
Ideal Experience

We're looking for candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • SNAP EBT transaction processing
  • EBT processor operations
  • State EBT modernization initiatives
  • Grocery or retail POS systems
  • Incentive calculation and redemption workflows
  • Settlement, reconciliation, and fraud controls
  • Nutrition incentive programs such as:
    • Double Up Food Bucks
    • GusNIP
    • Produce incentive programs
Preferred Qualifications

Experience with any of the following is highly preferred:

  • Indiana Hoosier Works EBT
  • USDA/FNS SNAP standards and requirements
  • Retailer certification processes
  • POS vendor environments
  • Public sector or health and human services technology initiatives
  • APIs, system integrations, or interoperability projects
  • Data privacy, security, PHI/PII governance
