Dispatcher, California

Job description

About Nevoya:
Nevoya is North America's leading next-generation electric trucking carrier, transforming logistics through AI-native operations and relentless customer focus. The company builds and uses proprietary technology to deliver zero-emissions carrier services to Fortune 500 shippers with superior economics and service to legacy diesel operators. The company has operations in California and Texas, and is backed by globally-renowned investors including Lowercarbon Capital.
About the Role:
We're looking for a Dispatcher who treats every load like it's their own problem to solve. This is a high-velocity operations role at the intersection of drivers, brokers, shippers, and technology. You'll manage live freight in real time - juggling ten things at once while keeping the customer experience front and center. When something goes sideways (and something always does), you'll dig in, figure out the root cause, propose a fix, and execute it not just escalate and wait.
You'll be the bridge between our Junior and Senior Dispatchers, owning the bulk of daily decisions independently and knowing exactly when a situation needs to go up the chain. This isn't a role for someone who wants a predictable queue of tickets. It's for someone who gets energized by the chaos of live operations, obsesses over getting it right for the customer, and leaves the shift knowing they made the network run a little better than they found it.
Shift Options
  • Sunday - Thursday: 8am-5pm
  • Monday - Friday (Night Shift): 8pm-4am

This role can be hybrid in Perris, CA.
What You'll Do
  • Assign and coordinate loads across our California fleet, ensuring on-time pickup and delivery
  • Communicate with drivers in real time to manage schedules, update routes, and troubleshoot issues the moment they surface
  • Liaise with brokers, shippers, and vendors to keep shipments flowing and expectations aligned
  • Keep our dispatch systems updated accurately and in real time - your data is what the rest of the business runs on
  • Monitor Hours of Service compliance for every driver on your board
  • Plan EV charging proactively so battery state never becomes the reason a load is late
  • Reprioritize in real time as emergent events hit - port delays, chassis issues, weather, driver callouts - using established playbooks and your own judgment
  • Support junior dispatchers, delegate tasks, and share the hard-won tricks that keep operations humming
  • Partner with Senior Dispatchers on escalations and operational improvements
  • Track and report on KPIs: on-time rates, empty miles %, HOS compliance, TMS accuracy, and charge management

How Success Is Measured:
  • On-Time Pickup & Delivery: 90% or higher
  • Load Assignment Turnaround: 30 minutes or less from load availability
  • Driver Communication Response Time: 5 minutes or less
  • Hours of Service (HOS) Compliance: 98% or higher
  • Empty Miles Percentage: 15% or lower
  • TMS Software Update Accuracy: 95% or higher
  • EV Charge Management: 95%+ trips without charging delays

Who You Are:
  • A multi-threaded operator. You can run three driver conversations, update two loads in the TMS, and reroute a fourth truck around a port closure - simultaneously, without dropping any of them. Context-switching is your baseline, not a skill you're working on.
  • A problem-solver, not a ticket-forwarder. You know which 80% of issues you can unjam yourself, and you only escalate when something genuinely warrants it. You don't wait to be told what to do.
  • Customer-obsessed. When a shipper has a problem, you don't just acknowledge it - you dig until you understand what they actually need, propose a real solution, and own the execution end to end. Going the extra mile isn't a cliché for you; it's how you default.
  • Tested in fast-moving logistics. You've spent 3+ years in freight, last-mile or high-velocity operations - ideally at a tech-forward carrier, modern delivery network, linehaul/mid-mile operator, or digital freight platform where speed, data accuracy, and customer metrics are non-negotiable.
  • Fluent in logistics technology. You've worked inside proprietary dispatch platforms, live tracking systems, and operations tooling. You're comfortable picking up new software quickly and opinionated about what makes a good workflow.
  • Adaptable. Policies change, tools change, customer priorities change - you roll with it rather than pushing back.
  • A clear communicator in English, on the phone with drivers and in writing with brokers, shippers, and your internal team.

Bonus Points:
  • Experience at a tech-driven last-mile or mid-mile logistics operation where data accuracy and customer metrics were non-negotiable
  • EV fleet or sustainable transportation dispatch experience
  • Familiarity with modern dispatch/tracking platforms
  • Coordinated operations across multiple time zones or distributed hubs
  • College degree
