What is remote telemetry?

A Remote Telemetry job involves monitoring and analyzing data from remote sensors, equipment, or systems to ensure proper operation and performance. This role is common in industries like healthcare, energy, manufacturing, and aerospace, where real-time data collection is critical. Responsibilities may include configuring telemetry systems, troubleshooting connectivity issues, and interpreting data trends to prevent failures. Many positions require expertise in network communications, data analysis, and industry-specific software. Remote telemetry professionals help optimize performance, reduce downtime, and improve operational efficiency.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in remote telemetry?

To thrive in Remote Telemetry, you need a solid understanding of telemetry systems, data analysis, and remote monitoring, often requiring a background in engineering, IT, or healthcare. Familiarity with telemetry software, remote monitoring tools, networking protocols, and sometimes certifications like CompTIA Network+ or relevant healthcare credentials is beneficial. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication stand out as vital soft skills for this position. These skills ensure accurate data interpretation, rapid troubleshooting, and effective collaboration within distributed teams to maintain operational integrity.

What are some typical challenges faced by professionals working in remote telemetry roles?

Professionals in remote telemetry roles often encounter challenges such as managing and interpreting large volumes of real-time data from dispersed locations, ensuring the reliability of monitoring systems, and troubleshooting technical issues without on-site access. Additionally, they must coordinate effectively with multiple teams, sometimes across different time zones, to resolve anomalies or respond to alerts quickly. Adapting to evolving technologies and maintaining security in data transmissions are also common aspects of the role. To thrive, strong organization, proactive communication, and a continuous learning mindset are essential for success in this dynamic environment.

  • Coordinate preventive maintenance (PM) and corrective maintenance (CM) activities, including vendor scheduling, work tracking, documentation management, and follow-through closure.
  • Support troubleshooting of utility-scale BESS equipment and plant systems, including battery systems, PCS equipment, EMS, SCADA, communications, and protection and controls systems.
  • Coordinate OEM, contractor, and service provider activities, including warranty administration, field service mobilization, corrective actions, and technical escalations.
  • Support CAISO operational readiness activities, including outage coordination, telemetry readiness, maintenance scheduling, and related operational documentation.
  • Maintain asset records, warranty logs, equipment histories, inventory tracking, RMAs, and other operational documentation within company systems.
  • Frequent travel to project sites as needed to support inspections, troubleshooting, commissioning activities, testing support, vendor oversight, and corrective action verification.
  • Support commissioning, turnover, and post-COD operational readiness activities to improve knowledge continuity and long-term asset performance.
  • Support internal reporting, compliance documentation, audit preparation, and continuous adherence to esVolta safety policies and procedures.

Skills & Qualifications
  • 2-5 years of experience in utility-scale power generation, renewable energy, battery energy storage, commissioning, field service, controls, SCADA, industrial electrical systems, or operations and maintenance is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, operations, or related field is required.
  • Experience supporting assets operating within CAISO is required.
  • Experience supporting Powin-integrated utility-scale BESS platforms strongly preferred; familiarity with Dynapower PCS, EPC Power PCS, Sungrow PowerTitan 2.0, or comparable utility-scale energy storage technologies is a plus.
  • Familiarity with outage coordination, telemetry systems, SCADA communications, and utility-scale operational workflows.
  • Ability to read and interpret one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, control schematics, and OEM technical documentation.
  • Experience supporting compliance documentation, audit preparation, and evidence retention practices.

  • Experience supporting maintenance planning, maintenance execution, commissioning, field service, or technical operations activities.
  • Working knowledge of utility-scale BESS equipment and plant systems, including battery systems, PCS/inverter systems, transformers, switchgear, protection and controls, SCADA, EMS, and communications systems.
  • Experience reviewing alarms, fault logs, event histories, and operational data to support troubleshooting and issue resolution.
  • Experience working directly with OEMs, contractors, service providers, and cross-functional internal teams.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills, including the ability to manage multiple open issues and priorities simultaneously.
  • Experience with CMMS and asset management systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to use AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Harvey) to improve efficiency, quality, and responsiveness of work, while applying sound judgment and appropriate oversight.
