Principal Consultant - Transmission Planning

*REMOTE Role - Can be located anywhere in the USA or Canada*

Role Description:

A Transmission Planning Principal Consultant is responsible for performing a variety of engineering tasks independently. A Principal Consultant independently makes decisions on engineering problems and methods and represents the organization to resolve important questions. A Principal Consultant leads team members with minimal management direction for projects and groups of projects. A Principal Consultant is a key technical resource, and their diverse experience is a selling point to clients.

What You’ll Do:

  • Maintains deep expertise in transmission planning and advanced analytical methods
  • Leads complex calculations, modeling, workflows, and QA/QC for major projects
  • Guides process improvements and helps develop new standards and procedures
  • Communicates technical concepts clearly to leaders, clients, and stakeholders
  • Manages large cross‑functional projects, identifies risks, and drives mitigations
  • Serves as primary client contact and ensures compliance with industry standards
  • Mentors engineers and technicians; develops documentation for knowledge transfer
  • Supports major proposals and contributes to industry committees and presentations

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET accredited university required
  • 15 years of related experience
  • Required experience may be reduced to 12 years for well qualified individuals with a Professional Engineering (PE) License, or P.Eng License
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License, OR P.Eng License
  • Knowledge of multiple engineering analysis software packages such as PSSE, PSLF, PSCAD, ASPEN, ETAP, TARA
