What is a Remote Taxonomist?

A Remote Taxonomist is a professional who organizes, classifies, and manages information or data into structured categories, typically for digital platforms, while working from a remote location. Their work helps improve search functionality, user navigation, and data retrieval on websites, apps, or databases. Remote Taxonomists may work in various industries, including e-commerce, libraries, museums, and content management. They use classification systems, metadata standards, and taxonomy tools to create clear and logical structures for information. This role often requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and experience with digital content management.

Commonly used tools include Slack or Microsoft Teams for communication, Jira or Asana for tracking tasks, and shared drives or wikis for documentation. Regular updates and clear communication help ensure alignment despite working remotely, and successful taxonomists are proactive in reaching out to team members to clarify requirements and provide expertise.
