Job description

Job Title: Remote Tax Director
Job ID: 1059944
Date Posted: August 26, 2026
Employment Type: Full-time
Hiring Company (Organization): Confidential
Location: US Remote
Applicants must be located in the United States.
Base Salary: $175,000–$200,000 per year (USD)
Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Job Description:

Tax Director needed to own the firm's tax practice end-to-end — both Compliance and Tax Advisory Services as a member of the firm's leadership team. You will lead approximately 15 people and serve as one of the firm's senior technical authorities.
Responsibilities
  • Lead, manage, and develop the tax team: directly lead, manage, and hold accountable four pod leads and a team of ~15 professionals across the practice.
  • Drive growth: shape the playbook, pricing, methodology, and team for proactive planning and white-glove delivery to top-tier clients.
  • Own compliance quality: ensure reviews are done right, deadlines are met, and standards are never compromised.
  • Lead high-impact client relationships: serve as the senior client-facing presence for complex engagements and elevate the relationships held by pod leads.
  • Build training and QA systems: maintain feedback loops that keep the team sharp and catch issues before they reach clients.
  • Serve as the technical authority: maintain both compliance mastery and advisory fluency, leading and teaching while remaining hands-on.
  • Sit on the firm's leadership team, helping shape the practice's direction — not just its day-to-day operations.
Minimum qualifications
  • CPA license required
  • Must have recent public accounting experience
  • 10+ years of public accounting experience, including meaningful time in a leadership or review capacity
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop multi-person tax teams (required, not optional)
  • Deep fluency in individual and business taxation, including 1040s, 1120-S, 1065, multi-state, and multi-entity structures
  • Proven ability to develop tax strategy and build advisory-level client relationships
Preferred qualifications
  • MS in Taxation
  • Experience with Canopy, SurePrep, UltraTax CS, or comparable platforms
  • Experience with trust taxation, multi-entity structures, captive insurance, or cross-border issues
  • Prior experience in an EOS-run organization
  • Genuine interest in AI-augmented tax workflows
  • Ambition to grow into a partnership role
Core competencies
  • Technical mastery across planning, compliance, and complex review
  • Skilled at coaching, motivating, and holding teammates accountable
  • Proactive, creative advisory mindset with clear strategic communication
  • Strong ownership and follow-through
  • Ability to zoom out and contribute to firm-wide strategy
Tech Stack

Our firm runs on Canopy, SurePrep, UltraTax, and QBO. We are actively evaluating AI-augmented planning and tax preparation platforms, with the goal of materially upgrading our workflows starting in 2027. The Tax Director will have a real voice in shaping that roadmap.
Benefits
  • $175,000+ base salary with performance bonus structure
  • Non-equity partnership available based on performance and tenure
  • 401(k) with 4% employer match
  • Health insurance, with optional dental and vision
  • Generous PTO and flexible work arrangements
  • A client base built for advisory work — not high-volume compliance turnover
  • A genuine voice in shaping the firm's strategic direction
