What is a remote tattoo artist?

A remote tattoo artist is a professional who offers tattoo design services virtually, rather than in person. They typically create custom tattoo artwork for clients based on their ideas and requirements, and then send digital files or stencils for the client to take to a local tattooist for application. Remote tattoo artists may also provide consultations, revisions, and advice on tattoo placement and aftercare. This service is ideal for clients seeking unique, personalized designs from artists who may not be in their geographic area.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote tattoo artist?

To thrive as a Remote Tattoo Artist, you need strong artistic ability, deep knowledge of tattoo design principles, and relevant training or apprenticeship in tattooing. Familiarity with digital design software like Procreate or Adobe Photoshop, and a solid understanding of hygiene and safety certifications are important for creating and sharing custom designs. Excellent communication, attention to detail, and the ability to understand client visions help build trust and deliver personalized work. These skills ensure high-quality, safe, and client-focused tattoo designs, even when working remotely.

How do remote tattoo artists typically collaborate with clients and studios to ensure design satisfaction before an in-person appointment?

Remote tattoo artists often work closely with clients and studios through digital communication platforms such as email, video calls, or specialized design portals. They gather client ideas, provide digital sketches, and iterate on feedback to refine the design until the client is satisfied. This process requires clear communication and strong visualization skills to accurately capture a client’s vision from a distance. Collaboration with studios may also include sharing design files and discussing technical requirements to ensure a smooth transition when the tattoo is applied in person.

Job description

Who We Are:
We're revolutionizing the tattoo industry, and we're looking for talented people to help us do it. Most studios still run on outdated booking and business management tools. Porter changes that with all-in-one software built specifically for tattoo artists and shops. Beyond customer intake and calendar management, Porter handles payments (including a POS terminal), CRM, marketing, and payroll-everything a studio needs to run, in one place.
What you'll do:
Porter is launching a done-for-you paid ads service, and you'll be the person who runs it. Studios sign up, and you take over their Google and Meta advertising end-to-end - strategy, creative, launch, and ongoing optimization - so shop owners can focus on their art while their bookings grow.
You'll work directly with studios from day one: onboarding them onto the service, getting access to their ad accounts, and explaining exactly what we do and what to expect. From there you'll build and run their campaigns, produce on-brand creative (primarily using AI tools, applying each shop's own logos, colors, fonts, and imagery), and continuously analyze and optimize toward real results. On the side, you'll also help oversee Porter's own paid ads - sitting alongside our founders & external agency to keep our campaigns sharp.
This is a founding, hands-on role for our ad service - you'll own it solo, shape how it works, and see your impact directly in our customers' businesses. If you love performance marketing, moving fast, and working closely with small business owners, this is the role for you.
Responsibilities:
  • Own Porter's paid ads service end-to-end for tattoo studios - building, launching, and managing Google Ads and Meta (Facebook/Instagram) campaigns
  • Onboard new studios onto the service: secure access to their ad accounts, walk them through the process, and set up code embeds and pixel tracking
  • Design campaign strategy for each studio - audiences, budgets, structure, and goals tailored to their business
  • Create on-brand ad creative and content, primarily using AI tools, applying each shop's logos, colors, fonts, and imagery
  • Monitor, analyze, and continuously optimize performance (spend, cost per lead, ROAS, bookings) and report results back to studios in plain language
  • Serve as the main point of contact for studios on the service, building trust and strong relationships with small business owners
  • Support Porter's own digital advertising by helping oversee our external agency) - reviewing performance and keeping campaigns on track
  • Help shape the service as it grows - refining playbooks, processes, and best practices

What we're looking for:
  • 3-5 years of hands-on paid media / growth marketing experience, ideally serving SMB clients
  • Proven track record managing Google Ads and Meta Ads campaigns and driving measurable results (leads, bookings, ROAS)
  • Comfort producing ad creative with AI tools and staying on-brand across many different clients
  • Strong analytical skills - you can read the data, diagnose what's working, and make the right optimization calls
  • Client-facing polish - you can explain paid ads to non-marketers and earn the trust of small business owners
  • Highly organized and self-directed; you can run a service solo and keep many campaigns moving at once
  • Experience overseeing or working alongside external agencies or vendors is a plus
  • Strong communicator who thrives in a small-team, high-ownership startup environment
  • Genuine interest in helping creative professionals and small businesses grow

Benefits:
  • Flexible working hours and a remote-first policy
  • Flexible PTO
  • Paid parental leave
  • Comprehensive health, vision, and dental insurance
  • Work-from-home stipend
  • 401K
