Position Summary:

The Business Intelligence and Reporting Analyst provides analysis foradministrative processes and workflows, quantitative and qualitative data from internal and external data sources, and related activities resulting in data reporting, tools, and frameworks to support the university in making effective, data-driven decisions. 
Additionally, the BIR Analyst will support assigned projects such as creating/modifying existing ASP.net applications and retrieving data from API interfaces.
The BIR Analyst collaborates closely with colleagues from assigned departments across campus to achieve shared objectives. The BIR Analyst reports to the Director of Business Intelligence and Reporting and is a member of the Campus Technology Services Division.

Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States, as Oklahoma City University is unable to provide visa sponsorship at this time.

This role is fully remote, requiring reliable internet access. Please note that attendance at monthly on-campus meetings is mandatory.

Minimum Qualifications:

At least one year of related experience collecting and analyzing data from internal and external data sources using business intelligence platforms and languages such as Tableau, SQL, PowerBI, RStudio or a similar reporting tools is required.
A suitable combination of education and experience may be substituted to meet minimum qualifications. [For example, a master's degree in a related field lmeets minimum experience; four years of directly related experience meets minimum education.]

Job Duties:

  • Demonstrate an attitude and behaviors that support the mission and core values of the BIR department, CTS division, and the university
  • Communicate frequently with users to define desired inputs and outputs for reporting needs and to analyze business processes to improve efficiencies
  • Create and publish Tableau workbooks to populate Tableau Server for functional departments
  • Develop expertise in the interpretation of dynamic data
  • Participate in the development and improvement of methods that measure and analyze data sets and processes
  • Ensure and maintain thorough methodologies to validate quality of outputs and minimize errors
  • Develop data flow interfaces between applications requiring data sharing
  • Support and maintain web portal and related technologies
  • Develop documentation of business processes and created reports
  • Provide training to end users when necessary
  • Maintain open communications with technical staff and external vendors
  • Oversees the management and maintenance of various existing applications and adjusts those applications a need arises
  • Stay up to date with applicable emerging technologies through research, self-paced learning, and consultation of resources common for the area
  • Support BIR and CTS special projects and initiatives
  • Support the BIR team by serving as a back-up for departments outside of assigned areas when needed

    • Thorough understanding of applicable data privacy practices and laws

    • Ability to translate business and design requirements into technical data requirements
    • Ability to research, learn, and apply new programming concepts/technologies at an acceptable pace
    • Strong abilities in analyzing and improving efficiencies of business processes
    • Ability to interpret and explain technical terms and concepts to non-technical end users
    • Ability to consult with end-users on business needs, translate business needs into analytics/reporting requirements, and work with the end-user to ensure needs have been successfully met
    • Ability to convert an existing business process into flow-chart or action diagrams to provide developers/programmers a blue print to create or modify applications
    • Ability to debug report queries when desired outputs are not correct
    • Skill in quality control as well as the ability to develop and maintain detailed documentation of work performed
    • Ability to meet deadlines, support multiple projects/data support requests in various stages
    • Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment with BIR colleagues, CTS team, a wide variety of campus stakeholders, and external parties

    • Knowledge of consuming data from REST/SOAP API sources
    • Strong knowledge of Oracle SQL/T-SQL
    • Knowledge of PowerBi reporting
    • Knowledge of Ellucian's Banner or similar higher ed/municipal ERP system
    • Strong abilities with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) to Extract, Transform, and Load Data into a centralized Data Warehouse

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Work is primarily indoors, but requires the incumbent to be in an outdoor environment when traveling between campus buildings or off campus.
  • Standard office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., however, incumbent must be flexible to ensure the accomplishment of job functions.
  • Off-campus, state and regional travel may be required.
  • May be exposed to frequent noise caused by telephone, computers, and office equipment.
