Job description

Job Title: Systems Engineer

Job Description

The Systems Engineer will take ownership of end-to-end requirements management for a complex, multi-disciplinary system, ensuring all requirements are clearly tracked, verified, and documented throughout the full lifecycle. This role focuses on organizing and maintaining requirements through verification and validation, testing, and documentation, while collaborating closely with electrical, mechanical, and software engineering teams. The Systems Engineer will help define and refine system architectures, create and maintain architecture diagrams, and ensure that every subsystem is properly designed, implemented, and validated.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and track system requirements throughout the full lifecycle, including design, implementation, verification, validation, and documentation.
  • Organize and clean up existing requirements to ensure they are clearly defined, traceable, and aligned with system objectives.
  • Own the primary requirements and architecture documentation, maintaining it as the single source of truth for the system.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers to develop architecture diagrams and documentation when they do not yet exist.
  • Create and maintain architecture diagrams that describe the complete system, its subsystems, and how they interact, including robotics, sensors, controls, software applications, and remote support infrastructure.
  • Coordinate verification and validation activities to ensure all requirements receive appropriate test coverage and documentation.
  • Support test planning and execution to verify that system and subsystem designs meet specified requirements.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including electrical, mechanical, software, and controls engineers, to clarify requirements and resolve gaps or ambiguities.
  • Simplify complex interactions between electrical, software, networking, and controls subsystems into clear, understandable requirements and design documentation.
  • Apply formal systems engineering practices to ensure robust system design, risk mitigation, and functional safety considerations.
  • Use requirements management tools to track changes, maintain traceability, and support audits or reviews.
  • Contribute critical thinking and problem-solving skills to address complex technical challenges in a sophisticated, multi-subsystem environment.

Essential Skills

  • Formal systems engineering experience with responsibility for end-to-end requirements management.
  • Hands-on experience as a Systems Engineer performing similar duties in a complex technical environment.
  • Strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, and software engineering concepts and how they integrate into a complete system.
  • Experience with requirements development, verification and validation, and test documentation.
  • Ability to create and maintain architecture diagrams that represent entire systems and their subsystems.
  • Proficiency with requirements management tools such as JAMA for tracking and organizing requirements.
  • Engineering degree in a relevant discipline (such as electrical, mechanical, software, or systems engineering).
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate clearly across disciplines.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to operate in complex, highly technical industries.
  • Experience with testing activities related to systems engineering, including planning, execution, and documentation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in controls engineering and functional safety is highly desirable.
  • Experience in industries involving robotics, sensors, controls, and software-intensive systems is beneficial.
  • Exposure to electrical, software, and networking systems, with the ability to understand and simplify their interactions.
  • Comfort working in complex, multi-subsystem environments and translating technical complexity into clear documentation.
  • Open on industry experience provided there is strong systems engineering and requirements management experience.
  • Ability to collaborate with remote support teams and understand infrastructure requirements.
  • Interest in contributing to a growing organization with opportunities for upward mobility.
