Job Description:
Job Summary
Responsible for assisting physicians during surgical procedures by providing exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other intraoperative technical functions. Supports robotic and traditional surgeries through direct assistance and scrubbing duties. Ensures proper preparation and positioning of patients, manages surgical tools, and maintains infection control standards. Collaborates with surgical teams to facilitate safe operations and optimal patient outcomes. Delivers customer service and supports cost containment to achieve unit goals.
Essential Functions
โ€ข Scrubs on operative procedures and assists in moving, positioning, and draping patients for surgery.
โ€ข Retracts tissue and exposes the operative field, ensuring optimal visualization and protection of critical structures.
โ€ข Assists in maintaining hemostasis by clamping, tying, applying sutures, and using hemostatic agents as directed.
โ€ข Assists in closure of incisions, including tying bleeders, applying sutures, staples, adhesives, and wound dressings.
โ€ข Prepares, gathers, and stages instruments and supplies for surgical cases, and facilitates case turnover and cleaning.
โ€ข Maintains strict aseptic technique, infection control, and universal precautions, reporting and correcting any breaches.
โ€ข Transports patients safely between the operating room and PACU, ensuring proper positioning and patient dignity.
โ€ข Collaborates with the surgical team to anticipate needs, communicate patient status, and support process improvements.
โ€ข Performs other duties as assigned.
Education Requirement
High school diploma or equivalent and vocational/technical training in a designated technical area
Experience Requirement
0-2 years of experience in a healthcare, clinical setting, or a relevant area
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
All experience must be paid and in the same related field.
Part-time and PRN experience will be prorated based on hours worked per week.
Volunteer work and internships for academic credit are not counted.
