Summary
Incumbent serves as a Management Assistant for one of the organizational units in the Centralized Support Division which is physically located at 9700 Page Boulevard. The Centralized Support Division is responsible for responding to requests from the Regional Offices for digital and/or paper military personnel and service treatment records and Privacy Act and Freedom of Information Act requests.

  • Assisting the division management in the preparation, assembly and correlation of Information in connection with surveys and one-time reports required by the Director, District Office or Central Office.
  • Must have a comprehensive working knowledge of all phases of the VARO operations including technical requirements and maintaining points of contact to remedy any out-of-line situation.
  • Assisting CSD management in Identifying its financial, personnel and material needs and problems. The incumbent coordinates records in support of management concerning statistical and narrative reports. He/she provides guidance and assistance to preparation and processing of coded input and other report information.
  • Answering Inquiries, composing certain correspondence, furnishing information either in person or telephonically.
  • Creating, providing, and coordinating training to division employees on various aspects of their positions.
  • Reviewing Information from charts, spreadsheets, and other statistical data reflecting workload, effectiveness, productivity, personnel, staffing, quality control and utilization of budgeted funds for any trends and makes recommendations and furnished justifications to support these recommendations. The incumbent Is responsible for conducting and coordinating activities concerning records management for the division and makes recommendations to management for improvement.

Work Schedule: Full time, Monday through Friday 8:00am-4:30pm
Telework: This position is eligible for situational (ad hoc) telework only. The selectee is required to report to the official duty station each scheduled workday. Telework may be approved only on a case-by-case basis with supervisory approval. Routine or recurring telework is not authorized for this position.

TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENT: As a current Federal, GS employee you must meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
To qualify for a GS-7, You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-6 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Specialized experience includes:
  • Experience with management techniques, methods, theories, principles, and labor relations concepts, to achieve program objectives with combined technical and administrative oversight.
  • Experience applying regulations, other official guidance and principles, including the latest procedures and techniques sufficient to oversee the planning, development and implementation of the technical aspects of programs specific to the position being filled;
  • Experience effectively communicating orally and in writing, using computer software.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Full vs. Part-Time Employment: Full-time employment is considered to be at least 35 hours per week. Part-time experience will be credited on a pro-rated basis; when including part-time employment in your resume you must specify the average hours worked per week.
Physical Requirements:The work normally involves mental rather than physical exertion. The work is mostly sedentary; however, there may be some walking, standing, and carrying of light items.
