What is a Remote Structural Engineer Internship?

A Remote Structural Engineer Internship is a temporary position that allows students or recent graduates to gain practical experience in structural engineering while working remotely. Interns typically assist with designing, analyzing, and reviewing structures like buildings or bridges using engineering software under the guidance of licensed engineers. This internship helps individuals develop technical skills, learn industry standards, and build a professional network, all while working from a location outside the traditional office. It's an excellent opportunity for those interested in structural engineering to gain real-world experience and prepare for a full-time career in the field.

What types of projects and collaboration can I expect during a remote structural engineer internship?

As a remote structural engineer intern, you'll typically work on a variety of tasks such as assisting with structural analysis, preparing technical drawings, and helping with the review of design calculations. You’ll likely collaborate with senior engineers, architects, and occasionally clients through virtual meetings, email, and project management platforms. Communication and proactive updates are key, as remote roles require strong self-motivation and organization. Interns often have regular check-ins with mentors, and may be assigned individual or team-based projects that build real-world skills relevant to structural engineering.

Civil Engineer
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Civil Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil engineering and project delivery, along with experience working with municipalities and local public and regulatory agencies, and utility providers.
In this role, you will demonstrate technical excellence while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to plan, design, and execute civil and utility infrastructure projects for a diverse range of clients.
Projects will include all phases of public infrastructure development, reconstruction and rehabilitation, spanning sitework, urban roads and streets, stormwater management, utility design, and the associated permitting and construction administration.
A Day in the Life of a Civil Engineer:
  • Design, develop, and deliver civil engineering projects from concept through construction.
  • Coordinate zoning, permitting, and environmental regulations with local municipalities, regulatory agencies, and utility providers.
  • Perform site evaluations, due diligence, and feasibility assessments for a broad array of municipal and local public agency infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare and review engineering plans, specifications, drainage reports, and permit submittals.
  • Collaborate with project managers to define scope, schedules, and budgets for proposed projects.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and supporting resources.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and design staff.
  • Perform quality control reviews for contract deliverables.
  • Coordinate with surveyors, environmental scientists, structural engineers, water/wastewater and water resource engineers to support integrated delivery of projects.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Texas with at least 6 years of relevant experience in civil engineering - preferably serving local public agency clients.
  • Familiarity with permitting processes with the coastal bend region.
  • Proven project and/or task management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles, including grading, pavements, drainage, stormwater management, and utility design.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Civil 3D and common engineering software tools.

The salary range for this position is $110,000 to $140,000 per year. Salary offered is based on years of relevant experience.
