What is a remote solutions engineer?

A Remote Solutions Engineer is a technical professional who helps customers understand, implement, and optimize a company's products or services, typically in a pre-sales or post-sales capacity. They work remotely to assess client needs, provide technical demonstrations, troubleshoot issues, and collaborate with sales and engineering teams. Their role often requires a mix of technical expertise, communication skills, and problem-solving abilities to ensure customer success.

What are the primary responsibilities of a remote solutions engineer on a daily basis?

A Remote Solutions Engineer typically spends their days designing technical solutions, troubleshooting client issues, and collaborating with both internal teams and clients via video calls, chat, or emails. Responsibilities often include gathering requirements, developing and implementing architectures, supporting technical pre-sales processes, and providing ongoing support and optimization for deployed solutions. Because the role is remote, strong self-management and proactive communication are essential, and most interaction happens in a virtual team environment. This allows for flexibility, but also requires a high degree of autonomy and accountability to ensure project milestones and customer satisfaction are consistently achieved.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the remote solutions engineer position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Solutions Engineer, you need strong technical expertise in IT systems, software development, and solutions architecture, typically backed by a degree in computer science or a related field. Experience with cloud platforms (like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud), networking tools, and relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect or CompTIA Network+ are highly valued. Exceptional communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage projects independently are crucial soft skills for this remote role. These competencies ensure you can effectively design, implement, and support tailored solutions for clients while collaborating with distributed teams and meeting business objectives.

Who You Are

Be Curious
We ask questions, seek to understand others, and stay curious about the problems we solve. Curiosity fuels creativity and innovation - and helps us build better solutions.

Customer First
We put people at the center of what we do - listening with care, acting with empathy, and going the extra mile to support those we serve. Customer First means understanding the needs of anyone we impact - whether that's a customer, a coworker, or an end user - and doing right by them.

Own the Outcome
We take initiative and do what it takes to deliver results. With resourcefulness and resolve, we overcome obstacles, follow through on our commitments, and hold ourselves accountable - because each of us is empowered to make an impact.

About Alchemer

  • Clearly articulate trade-offs, architecture decisions, and ROI in both technical and executive-facing conversationsย
  • Partner with Sales to shape value narratives, competitive positioning, and technical win strategies for complex dealsย
  • Lead technical responses for RFPs, security questionnaires, and architecture reviewsย
  • Independently manage standard InfoSec and security conversations, including data handling and integration discussionsย
  • Bring structured field feedback to Product and GTM teams to inform roadmap prioritization and messagingย
  • Create reusable demo assets, frameworks, or enablement materials that scale across the Solutions Engineering organizationย
  • Mentor and coach junior Solutions Engineers on discovery, demos, and technical storytellingย
  • Lead technical handoffs to Implementation and Professional Services teams, ensuring clarity on architecture, integrations, and success criteriaย
  • Partner with Customer Success to support long-term technical alignment and customer outcomesย

What Success Looks Like in this Role

  • Increased win rates on complex and enterprise opportunities through strong technical leadershipย
  • Shorter, more predictable sales cycles driven by clear discovery and defined technical close criteriaย
  • High confidence from Sales, customers, and internal teams inย Alchemer'sย technical and architectural capabilitiesย
  • Measurable impact on team effectiveness through mentorship, reusable assets, and process improvementsย

What You Bring to this Role

  • 3-5+ years in a Solutions Engineer, Sales Engineer, Solutions Consultant, or Technical Pre-Sales roleย
  • Experience supporting mid-market to enterprise SaaS sales cycles
  • Strong understanding of APIs, integrations, enterprise data workflows, and SaaS architecturesย
  • Proven ability to lead discovery, demos, and proofs-of-concept independentlyย
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and executive storytelling skills, both remote and in person

Preferred skills

  • Experience with experience management (XM),ย VoC,ย VoE, survey, or workflow automation platformsย
  • Hands-on familiarity with JavaScript, APIs, data structures, and integration patternsย
  • Experience handling security reviews, InfoSec questionnaires, or enterprise IT stakeholdersย
  • Consulting background or exposure to value-based selling methodologiesย
