Remote Solutions Engineer information

What is a remote solutions engineer?

A Remote Solutions Engineer is a technical professional who helps customers understand, implement, and optimize a company's products or services, typically in a pre-sales or post-sales capacity. They work remotely to assess client needs, provide technical demonstrations, troubleshoot issues, and collaborate with sales and engineering teams. Their role often requires a mix of technical expertise, communication skills, and problem-solving abilities to ensure customer success.

What are the primary responsibilities of a remote solutions engineer on a daily basis?

A Remote Solutions Engineer typically spends their days designing technical solutions, troubleshooting client issues, and collaborating with both internal teams and clients via video calls, chat, or emails. Responsibilities often include gathering requirements, developing and implementing architectures, supporting technical pre-sales processes, and providing ongoing support and optimization for deployed solutions. Because the role is remote, strong self-management and proactive communication are essential, and most interaction happens in a virtual team environment. This allows for flexibility, but also requires a high degree of autonomy and accountability to ensure project milestones and customer satisfaction are consistently achieved.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the remote solutions engineer position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Solutions Engineer, you need strong technical expertise in IT systems, software development, and solutions architecture, typically backed by a degree in computer science or a related field. Experience with cloud platforms (like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud), networking tools, and relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect or CompTIA Network+ are highly valued. Exceptional communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage projects independently are crucial soft skills for this remote role. These competencies ensure you can effectively design, implement, and support tailored solutions for clients while collaborating with distributed teams and meeting business objectives.

Job description

About the Role
We are looking for a sharp, trusted, and autonomous Federal Solutions Engineer to support NinjaOne’s expansion into the Public Sector. As an embedded technical partner to our Federal Growth team, you’ll play a critical role in both pre-sales strategy and post-sale onboarding, acting as a key translator between technical buyer needs and the broader Product and Engineering teams. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in mission-critical moments, loves navigating complex RFPs and government requirements, and can tailor messaging to both deep technical evaluators and high-level decision makers. You’ll serve as a customer advocate internally while building scalable tools, templates, and processes to support the next generation of federal growth.

Location - This is a Remote role open to candidates within Virginia or Maryland or those willing to relocate unassisted.
Travel Requirement - Up to 40% representing NinjaOne at key industry events, product launches, and customer engagements.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Own the technical presales experience for Federal and SLED accounts, guiding customers through evaluation, demo, architecture design, and onboarding phases.
  • Deliver tailored product demos and technical deep dives that align with customer security standards, compliance needs (FedRAMP, DoD IL2/4/5), and procurement requirements.
  • Support and guide the implementation of the NinjaOne platform for new public sector customers—ensuring quick time-to-value and customer success.
  • Act as the technical translator between Sales and Product—surfacing actionable feedback and feature gaps that directly impact deal velocity or retention.
  • Assist with RFPs, RFIs, and security questionnaires, providing accurate, compliance-aligned technical responses that differentiate NinjaOne’s value.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve customer technical issues, including endpoint configuration, agent behavior, networking challenges, and integrations.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Product Management on solution enhancements that improve the Federal customer experience.
  • Create and maintain reusable content and lab environments to scale future engagements (demos, battlecards, scripts, templates, etc.).
  • Represent NinjaOne at industry events, partner summits, and key government-facing conferences as a technical ambassador.
Technical Requirements
  • Proficiency with Windows environments (registry, services, performance troubleshooting).
  • Working knowledge of Linux and macOS systems and basic command-line troubleshooting.
  • Solid foundation in networking and security concepts, including firewalls, VPN, DNS, and common endpoint protections.
  • Familiarity with Active Directory, remote access tools, and endpoint deployment methodologies.
  • Hands-on experience with RMM tools, ITSM platforms, and endpoint lifecycle management is highly preferred.
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies and translate their value to customers.
  • Experience using Salesforce, Jira, Highspot, or equivalent systems is required.
About You
  • 5+ years in a Sales Engineer, Solutions Architect, or Technical Consultant role—within the Public Sector Enterprise space.
  • Exceptional communicator—capable of clearly articulating complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences, from system administrators to procurement and leadership.
  • A calm and credible presence in high-stakes, high-pressure customer conversations.
  • Customer-first mindset—you genuinely care about their experience and success.
  • Organized, self-directed, and capable of thriving in a remote-first, fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with FedRAMP, DoD Impact Levels, and NIST frameworks is required.
  • You align with our values Curiosity, Integrity, Kindness, Humility, Builders and are committed to creating an environment where these values flourish in our teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required; respected technical certifications (e.g., Security+, MCSE, CISSP) is preferred.
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance is required.
