Job description

At Terabase Energy, we believe that digitalization and automation will drive the next wave of innovation and cost reduction in large scale solar. To fully unlock the potential of this opportunity, Terabase is developing an interconnected software and construction automation platform. We work alongside project developers, owners, and engineering & construction firms to support the design, optimization, and construction of huge solar projects around the world. Our team is a blend of solar-industry veterans and newbies, thought-leaders, dreamers, software, electrical and mechanical engineers, coders, product managers, project managers, and sales and marketing professionals. We are based in Northern California, with several other offices in the United States and around the world.
We are seeking a Design Engineer to create PV power plant designs for projects from early stages of the project life cycle to detailed engineering for construction. Design Engineers are capable of creating highly detailed array layouts based on project site conditions, customer preferences, and their own knowledge of current technologies during the conceptual stages to optimize the value of the project. During the detailed engineering phase of the project, the Design Engineer will coordinate with internal and external resources as needed to generate the engineering package, obtain necessary construction permits, and assist in construction administration during the installation of the system.
The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience in utility power plant scale solar PV systems design, a knack for problem solving, is comfortable in dynamic situations, and detail-oriented. Experience in AutoCAD and Civil 3D is a must.

  • Assist in documenting and developing industry best practices, standards and guidelines
  • Attend project meetings, develop reports and status of design deliverables
  • Prepares detailed mechanical, electrical, civil, and structural designs for solar arrays
  • Coordinates with Project Managers, and other project participants to define project design basis and project goals
  • Uses understanding of system performance, construction logistics, material and labor costs to optimize designs
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining design packages
  • Adopts necessary document control measures to manage internal and external design documentation
  • Creates Bills of Materials for projects
  • Holds design review meetings with internal and external parties as needed to maintain proper QC/QA on their projects
  • Assists in development of departmental processes and best practices for the team

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or architecture
  • Minimum of 3 years project engineering experience in the design/build, EPC or utility electricity generation field producing technical CAD documents
  • Strong AutoCAD skills, SolidWorks is a plus
  • Working knowledge of electrical and civil design, materials and methods of installation
  • Strong familiarity with construction and electrical codes
  • Experience in the solar PV industry or other power generation sectors, and experience creating utility scale permitting and construction documents
  • SCADA design experience
