As a Sr. Software Engineer on the CE Payments team, you will be at the forefront of designing and building critical payment systems supporting millions of UnitedHealthcare users. Our team is dedicated to modernizing, scaling, and optimizing the transaction processing experience, ensuring extreme reliability and compliance. You will have the unique opportunity to develop robust backend services and mobile integrations using modern technology stack-including Java, Spring Boot, Python, Azure, AWS, and React Native. Additionally, you will integrate advanced technologies, such as Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and machine learning tools, to deliver secure, intelligent solutions that strictly protect PHI, PII, and adhere to PCI compliance.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and deploy scalable, secure, and resilient payment services and microservices using Java, Spring Boot, and Python
  • Design, develop, and deploy AI-powered solutions to address complex business challenges with emphasis on responsible use of AI
  • Build and maintain containerized applications within cloud environments using AWS, Azure, and Kubernetes
  • Leverage enterprise-approved AI tools and frameworks to streamline development workflows, automate repetitive tasks, and drive continuous improvement
  • Evaluate emerging technology trends, such as intelligent automation and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), to inform solution design and strategic innovation
  • Securely handle sensitive data in compliance with PCI, PHI, and PII standards, ensuring payment integrations are secure and robust
  • Build or optimize cross-platform web and mobile components utilizing JavaScript and React Native
  • Collaborate in an Agile/Scrum environment, participating in peer code reviews, CI/CD automation, and guiding junior team members on engineering best practices

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree OR 4 years of software engineering experience
  • 5 years of experience in professional software engineering, with a focus on designing and building robust backend services
  • 3 years of experience developing Java and Spring Boot
  • 2 years of experience working with containerization and orchestration platforms, such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • 2 years of experience building and deploying applications in cloud environments (AWS or Azure) 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working within payment transaction processing, financial systems, or highly secure enterprise platforms
  • Experience with JavaScript and React Native for frontend or cross-platform mobile development
  • Demonstrated experience with CI/CD automation tools and platforms (e.g., Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions)
  • Strong knowledge of security architecture, including encryption, tokenization, and strict adherence to PCI-DSS, PHI, and PII frameworks
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional, highly collaborative agile teams
  • 1 years of experience developing, configuring, or integrating intelligent automation, machine learning capabilities, or Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) workflows

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $91,700 - $163,700 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
