Remote Site Manager information

How does a remote site manager effectively oversee on-site operations and maintain team communication from a distance?

A Remote Site Manager utilizes digital tools such as video conferencing, project management software, and real-time reporting platforms to stay connected with on-site teams. They schedule regular virtual check-ins, monitor progress through daily reports, and address issues promptly by fostering open communication channels. Building strong relationships with on-site supervisors and ensuring clear delegation of responsibilities are key to overcoming the challenge of physical absence. This approach helps maintain productivity, safety standards, and project timelines while working remotely.

What is the difference between Remote Site Manager vs Construction Supervisor?

The Remote Site Manager and Construction Supervisor roles share similarities in industry and required certifications but differ mainly in work environment and scope. The Remote Site Manager typically oversees multiple remote locations from a central office, focusing on coordination and project management. In contrast, the Construction Supervisor works directly on-site, managing daily construction activities. Both roles are essential in construction projects but cater to different operational needs and work settings.

What is a remote site manager?

A Remote Site Manager is responsible for overseeing the operations, safety, and productivity of a worksite that is located away from the company's main office, often in locations such as construction sites, mining operations, or renewable energy installations. They coordinate teams, manage resources, ensure compliance with regulations, and communicate with stakeholders, all while working either on-site or remotely using digital tools. Their role is essential to keeping projects on track and ensuring that company standards are maintained, even when direct supervision from headquarters is not possible.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote site manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Site Manager, you need solid project management experience, a background in construction or site operations, and relevant qualifications such as a degree in engineering or construction management. Familiarity with project management software (like Procore or MS Project), remote collaboration tools, and safety certifications (e.g., OSHA) is typically required. Exceptional communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills help you coordinate dispersed teams and address on-site challenges efficiently. These skills and qualifications are crucial for ensuring projects run smoothly, stay on schedule, and meet safety and quality standards, even from a distance.

Job description

Company Overview

Docusign brings agreements to life. Over 1.5 million customers and more than a billion people in over 180 countries use Docusign solutions to accelerate the process of doing business and simplify people's lives. With intelligent agreement management, Docusign unleashes business-critical data that is trapped inside of documents. Until now, these were disconnected from business systems of record, costing businesses time, money, and opportunity. Using Docusign's Intelligent Agreement Management platform, companies can create, commit, and manage agreements with solutions created by the #1 company in e-signature and contract lifecycle management (CLM).

What you'll do

As Docusign transitions to a global, AI-powered Intelligent Agreement Management (IAM) platform, our infrastructure must be as innovative as our products. We are seeking a Senior Manager of SRE who operates with a Customer-First mindset and a strong sense of operational ownership. You will lead a high-performing team of SREs to evolve our reliability practices into a modern, engineering-first operation. You will drive the delivery of world-class reliability tools used internally by Docusign's engineering teams to provide unprecedented transparency and trust in our platform.

This position is a people manager role reporting to the Director, Site Reliability Engineering.

Responsibility

  • Drive the day-to-day reliability, availability, and performance of Docusign's global platform. You will ensure your team proactively monitors and maintains a resilient infrastructure that protects the customer experience

  • Lead engineering teams in developing and maintaining reliability tools, automation, and APIs used internally to accelerate developer velocity and support platform trust

  • Manage, mentor, and grow a team of SREs, including Senior and Staff-level engineers. Foster a culture of continuous learning, psychological safety, and technical excellence

  • Partner with product and dev teams to implement and monitor "Error Budgets" and SLOs. You understand that seconds of latency affect signers and downtime blocks business deals, and you advocate for the user in engineering discussions

  • Implement and champion the adoption of the Internal Developer Platform (IDP), making it seamless for our 2,000+ developers to build reliable services by default

  • Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, Compliance to ensure operational alignment and smooth project delivery

  • Shift the team from reactive incident response to predictive mitigation by implementing Chaos Engineering practices and automated self-healing mechanisms

Job Designation

Remote: Employee is not required to be in or near an office frequently and works from a designated remote work location for the majority of the time.

Docusign reserves the right to change a position's job designation depending on business needs and as permitted by local law.

What you bring

Basic

  • 10+ years of experience in Infrastructure, SRE, or Software Engineering, with a minimum of 4 years of experience directly managing engineering teams in a high-scale SaaS environment

  • Experience guiding teams that build tools and automation, viewing infrastructure as code and internal developers as your primary users

  • Experience managing complex technical projects, handling incident management efficiently, and driving systems to higher standards of uptime

  • Experience making technical priority decisions based on user impact and translating technical metrics into customer trust

  • Experience solving modern operational problems with software automation

  • Experience with modern programming languages (such as Go or Python) to review code, guide architecture, and lead automation efforts

Preferred

  • Experience managing enterprise-grade container orchestration using Kubernetes (specifically Azure Kubernetes Service/AKS)

  • Experience contributing to or implementing Internal Developer Platforms (IDPs) that boost developer velocity and autonomy

  • Familiarity with infrastructure supporting AI/LLM workloads or predictive data pipelines
