Industry UsageUsed in industries like automotive, aerospace, defense, and roboticsCommon in tech companies, research institutions, and consulting firms

While both roles involve data analysis and programming, Remote Sensor Fusion Engineers focus on integrating sensor data for real-time applications in robotics and autonomous systems. Remote Data Scientists analyze large datasets for insights and decision-making. The roles share technical skills but differ in application and industry focus.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Sensor Fusion Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Sensor Fusion Engineer, you need a solid background in signal processing, mathematics, and experience with sensor technologies, often supported by a degree in electrical engineering, robotics, or a related field. Familiarity with programming languages like Python or C++, sensor simulation tools, and frameworks such as ROS (Robot Operating System) is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, analytical thinking, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for collaborating remotely and integrating complex data sources. These skills and qualifications are essential for developing reliable sensor fusion algorithms that enable accurate perception in autonomous or remote systems.

What are some typical challenges faced by Remote Sensor Fusion Engineers when integrating data from multiple sensors?

Remote Sensor Fusion Engineers often encounter challenges such as handling data discrepancies due to varying sensor resolutions, synchronization issues caused by different sensor update rates, and managing sensor noise or data loss. Ensuring that the fused data is both reliable and processed in real-time for downstream applications can be complex, especially in distributed or remote environments. Effective collaboration with hardware engineers, software developers, and data scientists is essential to address these challenges and optimize system performance.

What does a Remote Sensor Fusion Engineer do?

A Remote Sensor Fusion Engineer is responsible for integrating and analyzing data from multiple sensors, such as cameras, radars, and lidars, to create a comprehensive and accurate understanding of an environment. This role is essential in fields like autonomous vehicles, robotics, and IoT systems, where precise situational awareness is critical. As a remote position, the engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams using digital tools to design algorithms, test sensor data integration, and improve system performance from a remote location.

The Opportunity

Join a missionfocused engineering team building advanced computer vision (CV), multisensor fusion, and detection and tracking capabilities for remote sensing and GEOINT environments. As a MidLevel Computer Vision Engineer, you will design, implement, and optimize CV algorithms and deep learning pipelines, contributing to operational systems used across national security missions. You will work closely with senior engineers while owning welldefined components of the technical solution.

What You'll Work On:

  • Develop and implement computer vision algorithms for target detection, characterization, and tracking across single and multisensor data

  • Build and maintain model training, evaluation, and deployment pipelines in Python or C++

  • Apply deep learning approaches, including transformerbased architectures such as DINO, CLIP, or SAM, to image understanding problems

  • Integrate classical estimation methods, such as Kalmanfamily filters with modern deep learning workflows to support realtime algorithm development

  • Contribute to GPUaccelerated model development using CUDA, RAPIDS, or vendorprovided inference runtimes

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to test, refine, and operationalize computer vision models for constrained compute or realtime environments

  • Support the implementation of microservicebased inference pipelines or containerized model deployments under senior guidance

  • Contribute to the architecture and implementation of novel single and multi-sensor platform detection and tracking algorithms and track fusion of targets

Join us. The world can't wait.

You Have:

  • 3+ years of experience developing computer vision algorithms for detection, tracking, or sensorbased analytics in remote sensing or GEOINTrelevant environments

  • 1+ years of experience applying deep learning to CV problems using transformerbased, selfsupervised, or contrastive learning architectures, such as DINO, CLIP, or SAM

  • Experience building pipelines in Python or C++ for algorithm development, training, evaluation, or deployment

  • Experience with GPUaccelerated workflows

  • Experience with classical tracking and estimation methods, such as Kalman or extended Kalman filters, supporting realtime development needs

  • Active TS/SCI clearance; willingness to take a polygraph exam

  • Bachelor's degreein a STEM field

Nice If You Have:

  • Experiencein GPU programming, including CUDA or RAPIDs

  • Experiencewithdeveloping synthetic modeling of Kinematic target features

  • Experience with AIaugmented development workflows or agentic tools, such as Codex, Claude Code, or OpenCode or other multi-agent approach
