Job description

We are looking for a strong engineer in the DRIVE Road structure / Online mapping / Context Fusion team. In this role, you will help craft and guide the future of our autonomous driving solution for providing a complete 3D world model including fusing signals between map and perception. You will be working closely with our perception and planning teams in providing a world model that is complete and able to drive in the most challenging roads and intersections in the U.S and China. It is a very exciting role that provides a breadth of interesting areas and is central to our vision in AV. Are you interested in inventing human level AI for navigation in the unconstrained world under any conditions? If so, join us!

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Develop core functionality for autonomous driving in all geographies based on the fusion of SOTA perception DNN and map signals.

  • Generate real-time 3D world model utilized by planning, incorporating a variety of inputs from sensors and external sources.

  • Enable HD mapless driving in complex urban scenarios by creating enriched BEV models of the world.

  • Enable L3 level autonomy in highway scenarios by creating accurate, reliable and safe models of the world from camera, lidar, radar perception and map signals

  • Build fused static obstacles and occupancy grids and build occlusion masks to enrich AV scenarios.

  • Be a technology leader by providing the team guidance on approaches to be taken to solve the hardest of AV problems. Be a hands-on collaborator with the team.

  • Mentoring strong engineers within the team.

  • Make sure our algorithms work well on large amounts of real and synthetic data, in a diverse range of environments and conditions

  • Produce code and designs following automotive quality and safety standards.

What We Need To See:

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or related fields or equivalent experience

  • 8+ years of experience, with at least 2+ years in the AV or robotics industry.

  • 2+ years of experience technically leading areas

  • Passion for robotics and autonomous vehicles

  • Drive to learn new things and tackle meaningful problems

  • Outstanding communication and cross-team collaboration especially with multinational teams across the globe.

  • Independent and analytical software engineering skills

  • Software development experience on embedded or automotive platforms.

Ways To Stand Out From The Crowd:

  • Background in 3D computational geometry, computer vision, sensor fusion, localization, mapping, trajectory optimization or state estimation algorithms like Kalman filters, particle filters

  • Significant industry experience in the AV area esp. self-driving cars.

  • Experience developing real-time Computer Vision systems.

  • Strong API and framework design skills

We believe that building self-driving vehicles will be a defining contribution of our generation (e.g. traffic accidents are responsible for ~1.25 million deaths per year world-wide). We have the funding and scale, but we need your help on our team. NVIDIA is widely considered to be one of the technology world's most desirable employers with some of the most forward-thinking people in the world working here. If you're entrepreneurial and autonomous, we want to hear from you!
