TSG is seeking aSolution Architect,Energy &Utilitiesto play a critical pre-sales role in shaping and advancing complex modernization initiatives for electric, gas, and water utilities and independent power producers (IPPs). This role partners closely with sales leadership and delivery experts to design integrated, outcome-led solutions that modernize utility operationswithout disrupting regulated, mission-critical environments.
Unlike roles focused on a single platform or lifecycle, thisPrincipal Consultantoperatesacrosscustomer, asset, workforce, data, cloud, security, and program delivery, helping utilities connect strategy to execution and adoption through a phased, continuous modernization approach.
You will be supported by a deep bench of internal subject matter experts, includingdomain specialistsin areas such as cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, data and analytics, and agile delivery, as well asenergy and utilities practitionerswith hands-on experience across utility-specific platforms and technologies. These teams actively partner on pre-sales discovery, solution design, and validation to ensure approaches are both technically sound andclient-ready.
This role is remote within the United States, with astrong preference for candidates based in Houston, Chicago, or Atlanta due to proximity to key clients, industry talent, and market activity.

Key Responsibilities:
Pre-Sales Leadership & Client Discovery
  • Partner with sales leadership to supportqualification, discovery, and solution shapingfor complex Energy & Utilities pursuits.
  • Lead discovery conversations with utility and IPP stakeholders acrossoperations, grid, IT, OT, engineering, customer, and executive teams.
  • Translate operational and business challenges intoclear, outcome-driven solution approachesthat balance reliability, regulatory constraints, and modernization goals.
Solution Architecture Across Utility & Energy Operations
  • Architect integrated, end-to-end modernization solutions across core utility and energy platforms, including:
    • Grid and Distribution Operations:ADMS, OMS, SCADA, and grid analytics
    • Distributed Energy Resources (DERs): integration, orchestration, forecasting, and operational visibility
    • Geospatial & Network Systems: GIS platforms supporting asset, outage, and planning use cases
    • Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI)and meter data management
    • Work, Asset, and Workforce Managementsupporting field operations and asset reliability
    • Customer and Meter-to-Cash platformswhere grid, usage, and customer experience intersect
  • Design solution architectures that integrateIT and OT systems, enabling improved situational awareness, operational efficiency, and decision-making.

Data, Analytics & Modern Platforms
  • Shape data and analytics strategies that unify grid, asset, customer, and operational data to support:
  • Grid reliability and resilience
  • DER management and load forecasting
  • Asset performance and capital planning
  • Customer insights and operational efficiency
  • Leverage modern cloud, data, and analytics platforms to enablescalable, secure, and future-ready utility architectures.

Security, Risk & Reliability by Design
  • Embedcybersecurity, regulatory compliance, and operational resilienceinto solution designs, particularly for mission-critical OT and grid systems.
  • Help clients navigate the tradeoffs between modernization speed and operational risk.

Proposal, RFP & Deal Support
  • Contribute to proposals, RFP responses, and oral presentations by defining:
  • Solution architectures and modernization roadmaps
  • Phased delivery and sequencing strategies
  • Key assumptions, dependencies, and risk considerations
  • Partner with delivery leaders to ensure solutions arecredible, executable, and aligned to TSG’s integrated delivery model.

Market Insight & Advisory Support
  • Bring informed perspective on industry trends including grid modernization, DER growth, electrification, energy transition, and increasing operational complexity.
  • Act as a trusted advisor in early client conversations, helping utilities and IPPs frame modernization decisions before requirements are fully defined.

Key Qualifications:
  • 7+ years of experience inutility consulting, solution architecture, or pre-sales rolessupporting complex technology and transformation initiatives.
  • Direct experience working withutilities, ideally across multiple functional areas.
  • Experience supporting$1M+ consulting or transformation pursuitswith multiple stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to simplify complex utility and technology topics for executive audiences.
  • Strong workshop facilitation, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Comfortoperatingin ambiguity and shaping solutions before requirements are fully defined.

Utility & Energy Systems Fluency
  • Broad utility and energy systems understandingacross grid operations, field operations, customer platforms, and enterprise environments, with the ability to connect OT and IT systems into cohesive, end-to-end solutions.
  • Architecture-level fluencyacross core operational technologies such as GIS, ADMS, OMS, SCADA, DER management, and AMI, including how these systems interact with data platforms, analytics, and enterprise applications.
  • Experienceoperatinginhybrid OT/IT environments, with an understanding of reliability, safety, cybersecurity, and regulatory constraints that shape modernization decisions in utilities and IPPs.
  • Ability to evaluate and articulatetradeoffs between operational risk, modernization speed, scalability, and cost, particularly in mission-critical grid and generation contexts.
  • Comfort working acrossmultiple anchor domains(e.g., grid operations, asset and workforce management, customer platforms,dataand analytics), bringing depth in some areas and informed judgment across others.
  • Strong understanding of howcloud, data, analytics, and securityenable modernization of utility and energy operations without disrupting core services.
