Remote Robotics Engineer Localization information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Robotics Engineer specializing in Localization, and why are they important?

To excel as a Remote Robotics Engineer in Localization, you need a solid background in robotics, computer science, and mathematics, often supported by a relevant degree and experience in localization algorithms. Proficiency with tools like ROS (Robot Operating System), SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) frameworks, and simulation environments such as Gazebo is typically required. Strong problem-solving, communication, and self-management skills are essential for collaborating effectively across distributed teams. These competencies ensure accurate robot navigation, successful project execution, and seamless remote teamwork in this technically demanding field.

What are Remote Robotics Engineer Localization jobs?

Remote Robotics Engineer Localization jobs involve developing and implementing algorithms and systems that enable robots to determine their position and orientation within an environment, all while working remotely. These engineers typically work on projects related to autonomous vehicles, drones, or industrial robots, focusing on technologies such as SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping), GPS, and sensor fusion. Their responsibilities can include software development, simulation, data analysis, and integration of localization solutions into robotic platforms. The remote aspect allows these professionals to collaborate with teams and deploy code from anywhere, often using virtual environments and remote access to robotic systems.

What is the difference between Remote Robotics Engineer Localization vs Remote Robotics Technician?

AspectRemote Robotics Engineer LocalizationRemote Robotics Technician
CredentialsBachelor's or higher in Robotics, Engineering, or related fields; certifications like ROS or embedded systemsTechnical diploma or associate degree; certifications in robotics or automation
Work EnvironmentDesign, development, and testing of robotic systems remotely; collaboration with engineering teamsMaintenance, troubleshooting, and installation of robotic systems remotely or on-site
Industry UsageUsed in robotics development companies, research labs, and manufacturingCommon in manufacturing plants, automation services, and technical support

Remote Robotics Engineer Localization focuses on designing and developing robotic systems remotely, requiring advanced engineering skills. In contrast, Remote Robotics Technician handles installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting, often with more hands-on tasks. Both roles are essential in the robotics industry but differ in responsibilities and required expertise.

How does a Remote Robotics Engineer specializing in Localization typically collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate robot navigation?

As a Remote Robotics Engineer focused on localization, you’ll frequently collaborate with software developers, hardware engineers, and data scientists to integrate and refine localization algorithms. Communication often involves regular virtual meetings, code reviews, and collaborative troubleshooting sessions to align system updates and deployment strategies. You’ll also work closely with QA teams to validate performance in diverse environments and may contribute to documentation to facilitate seamless integration across the robotics platform. This cross-functional teamwork is essential to ensure that robots can accurately determine their position and navigate reliably in real-world scenarios.

Job description

We're building safety-enhancing technology for aviation that will save lives. Automated aviation systems will enable a future where air transportation is safer, more convenient and fundamentally transformative to the way goods - and eventually people - move around the planet. We are a team of mission-driven engineers with experience across aerospace, robotics and self-driving cars working to make this future a reality.
As a Communication Systems Software Engineer, you will be a part of the team responsible for building the systems that enable a robust, highly reliable data link between the remote pilot and aircraft. You'll develop software products running in both bare-metal and Linux environments across the aircraft, control center, and cloud. Your work will directly enable the integration of uncrewed aircraft into the National Airspace System.
Responsibilities
  • Architect, implement, and verify core link management algorithms for traffic shaping, network performance monitoring, and failover/contingency management
  • Drive integration of complex third-party hardware and software systems into the Reliable Robotics autonomy platform.
  • Integrate applied cryptography and network security best practices to protocol design and endpoint architecture
  • Deploy and debug latency-sensitive software at all layers of the software stack, from embedded systems all the way up to the application layer

Basic Success Criteria
  • B.S. Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years systems-level programming experience in C++ or Rust
  • Professional experience developing software for high-performance networking or cloud applications

Preferred Criteria
  • Practical industry experience with Linux, including system-level programming, containerization, concurrency, and networking
  • Fluency with networking concepts such as UDP/IP, routing, and session management protocols
  • Prior experience designing, testing, or interfacing with RF hardware systems
  • Experience with applied cryptography and network security
  • Experience designing and implementing highly available and fault-tolerant distributed systems.

A highly reliable communication system is required in order to safely remove the pilot from onboard any aircraft. At Reliable, you will have the opportunity to build systems that span aircraft hardware, cloud infrastructure, and command centers to realize this vision.
This position requires access to information that is subject to U.S. export controls. An offer of employment will be contingent upon the applicant's capacity to perform in compliance with U.S. export control laws.
All applicants are asked to provide documentation that legally establishes status as a U.S. person or non-U.S. person (and nationalities in the case of a non-U.S. person). Where the applicant is not a U.S. person, meaning not a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful permanent resident, (iii) refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or not otherwise permitted to access the export-controlled technology without U.S. government authorization, the Company reserves the right not to apply for an export license for such applicants whose access to export-controlled technology or software source code requires authorization and may decline to proceed with the application process and any offer of employment on that basis.
At Reliable Robotics, our goal is to be a diverse and inclusive workforce. As an Equal Opportunity Employer, we do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, creed, ancestry, sex, gender (including pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, or related medical conditions), gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, age, non-disqualifying physical or mental disability or medical conditions, national origin, military or veteran status, genetic information, marital status, or any other basis covered by applicable law. All employment and promotion is decided on the basis of qualifications, merit, and business need.
If you require reasonable accommodation in completing an application, interviewing, completing any pre-employment testing, or otherwise participating in the employee selection process, please direct your inquiries to work@reliable.co
