What is a remote robotics automation engineer?

A Remote Robotics Automation Engineer is a professional who designs, develops, and maintains automated robotic systems while working remotely, often from a home office or offsite location. They create software and control systems that enable robots to perform tasks in manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, and other industries. These engineers collaborate with teams using digital tools and may also troubleshoot and optimize robotic processes remotely. Their work helps companies improve efficiency, reduce errors, and increase productivity through advanced automation solutions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote robotics automation engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Robotics Automation Engineer, you need a solid background in robotics, automation, programming (such as Python or C++), and often a degree in engineering or a related field. Familiarity with robotic operating systems (ROS), PLCs, CAD software, and certifications like Certified Automation Professional (CAP) are typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and self-motivation are crucial soft skills for remote collaboration and troubleshooting. These skills and qualities are essential for designing, implementing, and maintaining automation solutions efficiently in a distributed work environment.

How does a remote robotics automation engineer typically collaborate with on-site teams to troubleshoot and optimize robotic systems?

Remote Robotics Automation Engineers often use a combination of virtual communication tools, remote desktop applications, and IoT-enabled monitoring systems to collaborate with on-site teams. They regularly participate in video meetings to discuss system diagnostics, review logs, and guide on-site engineers through troubleshooting procedures. Effective communication and clear documentation are essential, as remote engineers must ensure local staff understand and can implement technical recommendations. This collaborative approach helps maintain system uptime and enables continuous process improvements despite physical distance.

Competitive US market salary based on experience
Meaningful equity participation
Flexible working hours
Onsite with hybrid flexibility
Relocation support if applicable
International, English-speaking engineering environment

ย
Here is why we love this job ourselves, and hope you will enjoy it too:
You'll have real ownership over robotic systems that ship and operate at scale
You'll work across the full lifecycle-from early design through customer acceptance
You'll collaborate with world-class engineers from top robotics, AI, and industrial companies
You'll influence how systems, processes, and teams scale, not just execute tasks
High-impact role with minimal bureaucracy and strong technical trust
Some of the problems you may try to solve with us:
Own the system-level technical execution of robotic stations and customer automation projects
Design and define the overall architecture and layout of robotic cells
Lead and develop project and commissioning engineers, coordinating cross-functional delivery across Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, and Automation teams and establishing clear interfaces and ownership boundaries with Software and ML teams
Drive end-to-end integration from early design through FAT, SAT, commissioning, and customer acceptance
Work closely with Project Management to identify technical risks, protect project schedules, and ensure engineering milestones are met from pre-sales handoff through final deployment
Understand and assess the impact, priority, and feasibility of proposed improvements or changes
Lead system-level troubleshooting across mechanical, electrical, controls, and software boundaries, identifying the appropriate owner and driving resolution to closure
Analyze robot and system performance data (dashboards, logs, spreadsheets, basic SQL/analytics tools)
Act as a technical bridge between engineering teams, project management, and customer-facing roles
Support customer site visits and deployments as needed (up to ~40% peak travel)
What skills we'd like you to have:

7+ years of experience in robotics, industrial automation, systems engineering, project engineering, or related technical fields
Proven experience delivering end-to-end robotic or automation projects through commissioning and customer acceptance
Hands-on experience in commissioning, applications engineering, industrial controls, or similar automation roles
Experience leading, managing, or developing engineers
Strong system-level understanding across mechanical, electrical, controls, robotics, and automation domains
Ability to deeply understand complex technical systems and debug across boundaries
Strong organizational skills and a bias toward execution and delivery
Comfortable making technical decisions under time and customer pressure
Experience analyzing performance data using tools such as Excel / Google Sheets, dashboards, or basic SQL
Excellent communication skills in English (French or German is a plus)
Willingness to travel up to ~40% (peak) to customer sites

Nice to Have

Experience in intralogistics, warehouse automation, or fulfillment systems
Hands-on experience with industrial robots (ABB strongly preferred)
Familiarity with FAT/SAT processes and customer acceptance workflows
Experience working in fast-scaling or startup robotics environments
