Type: Direct Hire
Work Model: Remote (travel to client sites as needed)
Overview
Step into a fully remote, direct-hire opportunity as a Refueling & Remote Handling Engineer (Level 4) supporting advanced nuclear operations. In this role, you'll lead the design and development of remote/robotic reactor servicing tools and inspection equipment, partnering across engineering, systems, and operations to deliver safe, reliable refueling and handling solutions. Competitive salary and benefits, with travel to client offices as needed.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of innovative solutions to complex engineering problems related to fuel and reactor module handling, including remote disassembly, inspection, and assembly during reactor refueling.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design remotely operated or controlled automated, robotic, and tele-operated reactor servicing tools and inspection equipment.
  • Prepare, review, and validate engineering reports, system descriptions, specifications, drawings, and calculations focusing on reactor servicing tooling and inspection systems.
  • Work closely with the Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) Component design organization to ensure systems interface properly with reactor servicing tools, meeting all functional and performance requirements.
  • Develop work sequences and handling plans in collaboration with Systems Engineering and Operations teams as part of an integrated tool design scheme.
  • Establish and maintain engineering standards and criteria; support procurement activities for equipment design, fabrication, and testing.
  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME), mentoring junior engineers and providing technical guidance to internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Support and manage project timelines, workload, and deadlines to ensure project success.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and quality assurance standards including 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and NQA-1.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to contribute to team goals and project milestones.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Nuclear Engineering from a four-year college or university; an advanced degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience in engineering design, particularly in mechanical handling equipment and systems.
  • Proven experience in implementing engineering design processes related to mechanical handling and robotic systems.
  • Proficiency in planning and preparing mechanical design documents for equipment and systems.
  • Experience working in a nuclear environment is a plus.
  • Must be eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
