Job Description:
Job Summary
Responsible for providing assistance to registered nurses and licensed practical nurses in the delivery of patient care. Ensures support for clinical procedures and daily patient needs. Maintains adherence to established protocols and safety standards. Coordinates communication between patients and healthcare team members. Supports efficient and compassionate patient care within the healthcare setting.
Essential Functions
• Assists the RN or LPN with non-nursing tasks such as crash cart checks, quality control checks, retrieving equipment and supplies, maintaining cleanliness, and stocking supplies.
• Supports the RN or LPN with routine patient care activities including vital signs, intake and output, pain assessment, administering enemas, applying hot or cold packs, glucoscans, height and weight measurements, transporting, ambulating, answering call lights, cleaning equipment, sitting 1:1, EKGs, receiving patients, and assisting with pre- and post-operative care, admission, discharge, and treatments.
• Recognizes and practices within the scope of certification and competency, promptly relaying questions or concerns to the supervising RN or LPN and seeking assistance when needed.
• Effectively communicates pertinent information during shift-to-shift and transfer reports and documents relevant items in EPIC as indicated.
• Responds and assists in emergency and urgent situations, including ERT calls, as directed.
• Transports patients according to protocol and provides handoff to receiving team members.
• Performs additional emergency department tasks such as wound care, splinting, crutch fitting and teaching, preparing supplies, assisting with procedures, triaging ambulance patients, ear irrigation, suture and staple removal, and spinal immobilization as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Education Requirement
High school diploma or equivalent and vocational/technical trainiing in relevant area
Experience Requirement
0-1 years of experience in a healthcare, clinical setting, or a relevant area
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
All experience must be paid and in the same related field.
Part-time and PRN experience will be prorated based on hours worked per week.
Volunteer work and internships for academic credit are not counted.
Certifications & Licensures
Basic Life Support (BLS), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) National Registry and applicable state certification, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) within 90 days of hire
