What is a remote risk?

Remote Risk jobs are positions in risk management that are performed entirely or mostly from a remote location, rather than in a traditional office setting. These roles involve identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks that could affect a company’s operations, finances, or reputation. Common tasks include analyzing data, developing risk management strategies, and ensuring compliance with regulations. Remote Risk professionals often use digital tools and platforms to communicate and collaborate with their teams. This flexibility allows companies to access a broader talent pool and enables employees to work from anywhere.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote risk analyst?

To thrive as a Remote Risk Analyst, you need strong analytical skills, knowledge of risk management principles, and typically a degree in finance, business, or a related field. Familiarity with risk analysis software, data visualization tools, and certifications like FRM (Financial Risk Manager) are often required. Excellent communication, attention to detail, and self-motivation are vital soft skills for collaborating remotely and ensuring thorough risk assessments. These abilities help identify potential threats, support informed decision-making, and maintain organizational resilience in a remote work environment.

How does a remote risk professional typically collaborate with cross-functional teams to address potential threats?

Remote Risk professionals often work closely with IT, compliance, legal, and operations teams to identify and mitigate potential threats. Collaboration typically involves regular virtual meetings, sharing risk assessments, and developing response strategies using digital communication tools. As a remote worker, strong written and verbal communication skills are essential to ensure all stakeholders are informed and aligned on risk management practices. Effective collaboration also means proactively seeking input from various departments to build a comprehensive risk profile and ensure timely resolution of issues.

Job description

What you'll do

As Surety & Insurance Risk Manager, you'll join Giga's Risk & Insurance team, reporting directly to the Head of Risk & Insurance. You'll manage the day-to-day administration of Giga's bonding and insurance programs - including bond submissions, portfolio-wide risk reporting, and insurance program administration. This is a builder's seat: you'll help stand up the processes and systems that let the function scale as Giga grows.

Where you'll work

This role is remote - we don't care where you sit, only that you're excellent at the job. You'll travel occasionally (about 10% of the time, roughly a couple of trips per year) for company and team offsites to stay closely connected with Growth and Finance, given how tightly this role works with them.

Responsibilities
  • Manage day-to-day administration of performance bond submissions - paperwork, timelines, and status tracking across all live deals
  • Build and own portfolio-wide risk reporting - aggregate bond capacity, exposure, and insurance program status across all active and pipeline deals into a single source of truth for leadership
  • Administer corporate and project-level insurance programs - renewals, certificates of insurance, coverage tracking
  • Build and maintain the data infrastructure (bond capacity, program terms, deal history, renewal calendars) that lets the function make fast, informed decisions
  • Prepare deal-level bonding and insurance summaries for broker and surety negotiations
  • Partner with Legal, Finance, and Growth counterparts on the operational side of deal structuring
  • Build the processes, templates, and systems that will let the function scale as Giga grows
Requirements
  • 5-7+ years of experience in insurance, risk management, or performance bonds/surety
  • Working knowledge of and/or related experience with how performance bonds are underwritten, priced, and structured - insurance backgrounds with transferable skills are welcome
  • Solid understanding of corporate and project-level insurance programs
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Comfortable operating with incomplete information in a fast-moving environment
Bonus points
  • Background at a surety company, insurance carrier, or brokerage
  • Experience in construction, infrastructure, or industrial/energy sectors
  • Industry-specific certifications (e.g., CPCU, ARM, surety bond producer credentials)
  • Experience helping build out a risk management function from the ground up
Benefits
  • Subsidized health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Equity (options) in a rapidly growing startup
  • 401(k) with 4% employer match
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Parental leave
  • Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA)
  • Commuter benefits
  • Quarterly team onsites where all offices come in-person to collaborate
