Job description

The Opportunity

Amylyx is seeking a highly motivated attorney to join its Legal Department as an Associate Director, Legal & Compliance.  Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Deputy General Counsel & Compliance Officer, and supporting various members of the Legal Department, this is a unique opportunity for an attorney seeking broad in-house experience in a growing biotechnology company preparing for a commercial launch and rapid growth.

The successful candidate will be a strong problem-solver with sound judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to support a broad range of daily legal advising and special projects across contracting, compliance and risk management, employment law, litigation, privacy, product, and emerging areas such as artificial intelligence.

We anticipate hiring the Associate Director, Legal & Compliance in September 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Develop trusted relationships with the business and provide legal and compliance guidance to support business objectives.
  • Negotiate, draft, and advise on a broad range of agreements, including vendor, consulting, confidentiality, technology, clinical, medical affairs, commercial, etc.
  • Support the Company's healthcare compliance program, including policy development, training, monitoring, investigations, and corrective action initiatives.
  • Support employment law matters, including employment compliance, employee relations, and investigations.
  • Support enterprise risk management activities, including risk assessments, mitigation planning, and reporting.
  • Assist with litigation as necessary, including engagement and management of outside counsel, strategic coordination, and document preservation and discovery.
  • Collaborate with the Data Protection Officer on the Company's privacy program, including advising on information governance and emerging technology matters, such as artificial intelligence.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and ongoing enhancement of company policies, procedures, and governance processes.
  • Stay abreast of laws, regulations, enforcement trends, and industry guidance relevant to the Company's business.
  • Manage and coordinate work with outside counsel and other external advisors, as appropriate.
  • Support special projects and strategic initiatives across the Legal and Compliance function.

Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and membership in good standing with at least one state bar.
  • Approximately 4-8 years of relevant legal experience in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, medical device, and/or life sciences industry, with law firm and/or in-house experience preferred.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, a problem-solving mindset, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and drive execution.
  • Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively across functions and levels of the organization.
  • Strong business acumen and a solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and willingness to learn new areas of law and business.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethics, integrity, and values-based leadership.

Work Location and Conditions

  • At Amylyx, we proudly support remote work opportunities within the United States. However, due to business considerations related to health insurance coverage and state tax regulations, we are unable to hire employees who reside and/or work in certain states. Currently, we are not considering applicants from Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii, Michigan and Tennessee.
  • You will be expected to travel to our corporate location in Cambridge, MA several times a year and attend other company-related events as necessary and requested.
  • You must have access to work in setting which enables meeting all requirements of the role (including privacy, reliable internet access, phone, ability to video conference, etc.) at your remote location.
