Job description

Are you passionate about steel construction and ready to build a career in project management? Macuch Steel is seeking an experienced and driven Project Manager to lead structural and miscellaneous steel fabrication and erection projects from award through closeout. This position plays a critical role in ensuring projects are executed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract requirements and company quality standards. Although this is a remote position, candidates should be within a 5-hour drive of Atlanta and be open to occasional travel and job site visits as required.

The successful candidate will serve as the primary liaison between customers, general contractors, architects, engineers, vendors, subcontractors, detailers, fabrication shops, and internal departments. This role requires strong technical knowledge of structural steel construction, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while protecting the company's financial and contractual interests.
 
Key Responsibilities:
Project Management & Customer Relations:
  • Manage multiple structural steel and miscellaneous metals projects from preconstruction through project closeout.
  • Review contract documents, specifications, structural drawings, and shop drawings.
  • Coordinate project activities with customers, contractors, engineers, architects, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Track project milestones and ensure adherence to schedules and contractual requirements.
  • Communicate approved change orders and back charges.
  • Protect the company's contractual rights while maintaining strong customer relationships.
  • Identify project risks and proactively implement solutions to maintain project success.
 
Financial Management:
  • Manage project budgets, job costs, forecasts, and profitability.
  • Prepare billing information and assist with customer invoicing.
  • Monitor project expenditures and maintain accurate cost projections.
  • Support collections efforts and monitor outstanding receivables.
  • Manage vendor selection and procurement activities to maximize value and project performance.
 
Fabrication & Production Coordination:
  • Coordinate fabrication priorities and delivery schedules with production personnel.
  • Ensure shop drawings are reviewed, approved, and released to production in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate deliveries and field installation schedules to support project requirements.
 
Quality Assurance:
  • Work closely with the Quality Manager to ensure compliance with AISC standards and company quality procedures.
  • Verify fabrication and project documentation meets customer specifications and contractual requirements.
 
Safety:
  • Promote and support a culture of safety across all assigned projects.
  • Coordinate with field personnel and management regarding jobsite safety initiatives.
 
Leadership & Collaboration:
  • Collaborate effectively with estimating, purchasing, production, accounting, quality, and erector teams.
  • Foster teamwork while maintaining accountability for project performance and results.
  • Provide leadership through effective communication, problem-solving, and decision-making.
 
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support company operations and project success.
 
Required Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
  • Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of project management experience, preferably in:
    • Structural steel fabrication
    • Miscellaneous metals
    • Commercial construction
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant experience will be considered.
 
Technical Knowledge:
  • Strong ability to read and interpret:
    • Structural & Architectural drawings.
    • Shop drawings.
    • Welding symbols and AWS D1.1 & D1.8 requirements.
    • Steel connection details.
  • Working knowledge of structural steel fabrication and erection processes.
  • Understanding of project budgeting, procurement, scheduling, and cost control.
  • Familiarity with AISC standards and quality management principles is preferred.
