Complex Liability Coverage Consultant LHH is seeking a Complex Liability Coverage Consultant for a highly specialized consulting practice focused on maximizing insurance recoveries for clients facing complex and long-tail liability claims. This role offers the opportunity to provide strategic coverage expertise, negotiate recoveries with insurance carriers, and serve as a trusted advisor to clients navigating mass tort, environmental, asbestos, pollution, sexual assault, concussion, and other complex liability matters. Position Summary The Complex Liability Coverage Consultant will partner with organizations to evaluate complex insurance programs, identify coverage opportunities, and develop strategies that maximize financial recoveries from insurers. This position requires deep expertise in insurance coverage analysis, long-tail claims management, policy interpretation, insurer negotiations, and risk management consulting. The consultant will work directly with clients, carriers, legal stakeholders, and project teams to deliver innovative solutions that protect client interests and drive favorable outcomes.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
  • Analyze complex liability claims involving mass tort, environmental, pollution, asbestos, sexual assault, concussion, and other long-tail exposures.
  • Review insurance policies and historical coverage programs to identify recovery opportunities and coverage applicability.
  • Conduct insurance archaeology and legacy policy research to locate historical insurance coverage documentation.
  • Develop and execute strategic recovery plans aligned with client objectives.
  • Prepare coverage analyses, policy summaries, recovery strategies, and client presentations.
  • Manage insurer communications, including notices, tenders, coverage correspondence, and information requests.
  • Evaluate insurer coverage positions and formulate responses to maximize recoveries.
  • Negotiate coverage settlements, allocation agreements, and claim resolutions with insurance carriers and adjusters.
  • Assess cost-sharing agreements and buyout proposals to protect client interests.
  • Create coverage charts, policy mapping tools, and reporting deliverables.
  • Lead client meetings and provide expert consultation on complex risk management and insurance coverage issues.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to deliver high-value consulting engagements.
  • Maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive client and claim-related information.
  • Ensure accurate timekeeping, billing, reporting, and project documentation.

Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5+ years of experience evaluating, analyzing, and negotiating insurance coverage for complex or long-tail claims.
  • Experience working within an insurance carrier, insurance archaeology firm, consulting organization, law firm, or similar environment.
  • Strong knowledge of insurance coverage principles, policy interpretation, and claims management.
  • Experience negotiating with insurers, adjusters, and coverage stakeholders.
  • Ability to analyze multi-year and complex insurance programs.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and client-facing communication skills.
  • Strong project management and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced consulting environment.
Preferred
  • Experience with insurance archaeology and legacy policy searches.
  • Expertise in asbestos, environmental, pollution, toxic tort, mass tort, or other long-tail liability exposures.
  • Background in coverage counseling, risk management consulting, or complex claims consulting.
  • Proven record of delivering successful client outcomes and expanding consulting engagements.
  • Ability to develop creative solutions for highly complex coverage and liability issues.
