Remote Risk Investigators frequently work cross-functionally with teams such as compliance, customer service, and legal to gather information and resolve suspicious activities. Collaboration often involves participating in virtual meetings, sharing investigative findings, and recommending actions based on analysis. Clear communication and documentation are essential, as remote investigators must coordinate efforts and ensure all stakeholders are informed. This teamwork approach helps to ensure that risk mitigation strategies are thorough and effective, even when working from different locations.

Can a risk analyst work remotely?

Lumen is the trusted network for the AIpowered world, connecting people, data, and applications through our expansive fiber network and connected ecosystem. We enable secure, highperformance connectivity across cloud, edge, and AI workloads for enterprises, governments, and communities.

At Lumen, you'll work on infrastructure customers rely on today and build for what's next, where performance, security, and resilience matter.

This is a high accountability environment where bold ideas drive real innovation for our customers, partners, and industry. The work is challenging, expectations are clear, and trust is built into how we operate. If you're ready to take ownership, deliver meaningful impact, and help shape the future of AIready connectivity, join us today.

The Role

At Lumen, integrity isn't a statement, it's a standard we actively uphold. As part of the Corporate Ethics & Compliance team, you'll operate in an environment that values transparency, sound judgment, and accountability, where issues are addressed directly and expectations are high.

We're hiring a Lead Corporate Investigator to lead complex internal investigations into employee conduct, workplace concerns, and business integrity matters. This role will report to the Manager of Corporate Investigations and sits at the center of difficult, often ambiguous situations-requiring the ability to assess risk, navigate competing perspectives, and deliver fact-based outcomes that stand up to scrutiny.

You'll partner closely with Human Resources, Legal, and senior stakeholders, working through sensitive issues with discretion while maintaining independence and objectivity. The work can be fast-paced and nuanced, but it's also high-impact-helping ensure we operate in a way that aligns with our standards and supports a fair, consistent employee experience.

The Main Responsibilities
  • Lead end-to-end internal investigations involving employee misconduct, ethics concerns, and business integrity matters
  • Manage multiple investigations concurrently, prioritizing based on risk, complexity, and business impact
  • Conduct interviews with employees, witnesses, and stakeholders using a neutral, thoughtful, and professional approach
  • Analyze facts, documentation, and patterns to develop clear, well-supported findings
  • Produce high-quality Reports of Investigation; clarity, structure, and sound reasoning are critical
  • Present findings and recommendations to Human Resources, Legal, and senior stakeholders with confidence and credibility
  • Exercise sound judgment and maintain strict confidentiality when handling sensitive matters
  • Operate effectively within a remote environment, staying connected and responsive across stakeholders
  • Contribute to broader Ethics & Compliance initiatives as priorities evolve
What We Look For in a Candidate

Required:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
  • Demonstrated experience conducting investigations (internal investigations strongly preferred)
  • Background in employee relations, employment law, or workplace investigations
  • Strong written communication skills, including drafting detailed investigative reports
  • Ability to manage multiple cases independently in a remote environment
  • Sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to handle highly sensitive matters
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust while remaining objective

Preferred:

  • Exposure to EEO, misconduct, or employee relations investigations
  • Background in employment law
  • Familiarity with business integrity issues (e.g., fraud, compliance-related matters)
