Job description

Direct Counsel is seeking a Law Enforcement Defense Attorney to join a sophisticated and growing litigation practice representing public agencies, law enforcement entities, and officers throughout California. This is an exciting opportunity for an attorney with 3โ€“6 years of litigation experience interested in handling high-profile civil rights and constitutional law matters in both state and federal court.

The ideal candidate will have experience defending law enforcement agencies and officers in civil rights litigation and possess strong writing, analytical, research, and advocacy skills. Candidates should be comfortable managing litigation matters independently while collaborating closely with experienced trial attorneys.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of civil litigation matters in state and federal court
  • Handle complex discovery issues in high-profile litigation
  • Conduct and defend depositions
  • Participate in trial preparation and trial support
  • Draft motions, appellate briefs, and legal memoranda
  • Interface directly with clients, including law enforcement agencies and officers
  • Collaborate with supervising partners and litigation teams on case strategy
Qualifications
  • 3โ€“6 years of litigation experience, preferably involving civil rights, constitutional law, or law enforcement defense
  • Experience defending law enforcement agencies or public entities preferred
  • Strong deposition, motion practice, and legal research/writing skills
  • Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment
  • California Bar admission required
Compensation & Benefits
  • Base salary range: $158,000 โ€“ $205,000
  • Annual performance-based and billable hours bonuses
  • Mainly Remote, but must reside in CA
