What is a remote restaurant?

A remote restaurant is a dining establishment that operates without a traditional dine-in space, focusing on delivery or takeout orders only. Often referred to as a 'ghost kitchen' or 'virtual restaurant,' these businesses prepare meals in a commercial kitchen and fulfill orders through online platforms or apps. This model allows restaurants to reduce overhead costs associated with in-person dining and reach a broader customer base through digital channels. Remote restaurants have become increasingly popular due to shifting consumer preferences and advancements in food delivery technology.

How does working in a remote restaurant support role differ from a traditional on-site restaurant position?

In a remote restaurant support role, such as customer service or order management, you'll be managing guest interactions and operational tasks online or by phone rather than in person. This means your daily responsibilities focus on processing orders, resolving customer inquiries, and coordinating with kitchen and delivery teams virtually. While you avoid the fast-paced physical environment of a restaurant, strong communication and multitasking skills are essential to ensure smooth service. Collaboration is typically done through digital platforms, and you may need to adapt to varied schedules or time zones, depending on the restaurant's hours and customer base.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote restaurant manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Restaurant Manager, you need experience in hospitality management, operational oversight, and a strong understanding of restaurant business practices, often supported by a degree in hospitality or business. Familiarity with cloud-based POS systems, inventory management software, and online ordering platforms is typically required. Exceptional communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills help manage remote teams and ensure smooth operations. These abilities are crucial for maintaining service quality, customer satisfaction, and efficient team coordination from a distance.

  • Build and maintain standard test plans, test strategies, and test case repositories for major releases and projects
  • Strategize and optimize End-to-End Regression in a risk-based fashion
  • Manage and triage defects, facilitate defect review meetings, and ensure timely resolution with development teams
  • Track and report test execution metrics including test coverage, pass/fail rates, defect trends, and capacity utilization to QE leadership
  • Maintain a production readiness checklist and support release go/no-go readiness reviews

Required Qualifications
  • 15+ years in QA/QE with 5+ years in complex, multi-team test planning, coordination, or test management
  • Demonstrated experience managing end-to-end test cycles across multiple teams, vendors, and concurrent releases
  • Experience managing contingent or vendor QE resources, including capacity planning and prioritization
  • Proficiency with JIRA, defect management and test management tools (e.g., Zephyr, AIO, TestRail, Xray, or equivalent)
  • Strong understanding of functional, regression, integration, and UAT testing types
  • Experience facilitating UAT with business stakeholders and driving formal sign-off processes
  • Ability to clearly communicate test status, risks, and blockers to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments with formal acceptance criteria and Definition of Done practices

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in eCommerce, restaurant technology, or POS platform testing
  • Familiarity with test data management approaches (database, JSON, flat files)
  • Exposure to performance and user experience (Accessibility, Localization) testing and practices
  • Experience supporting compliance testing for PCI or SOX environments
  • Knowledge management platform experience (e.g., Confluence, SharePoint, Notion, or equivalent)
  • ISTQB Foundation or equivalent certification
