The purpose of this position is to review the medical record to assure specificity of diagnoses, procedures and appropriate/optimal reimbursement for hospital and/or professional charges; Retrieves information from medical records, ensuring adherence with established methods and procedures.
Key Responsibilities/ Accountabilities:
โ€ข Review medical record documentation and accurately code the primary/secondary diagnoses and procedures using ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 coding conventions.
โ€ข Sequence the diagnoses and procedures using coding guidelines.
โ€ข Ensure DRG/APC assignment is accurate.
โ€ข Abstract and compile data from medical records for appropriate optimal reimbursement for hospital and/or professional charges.
โ€ข Serves as backup to other administrative functions as assigned.
โ€ข Meets job standards for achieving contract deliverables.
โ€ข Assists with other job- and education-related duties as assigned.
โ€ข Other duties as assigned
โ€ข Read, understand, and adhere to all corporate policies including policies related to HIP nd its Privacy and Security Rules.
Critical Qualifications:
โ€ข High school diploma or GED.
โ€ข Certification as a Coding Specialist (CCS preferred - others may be considered with substantial hospital inpatient coding experience).
Additional Qualifications:
โ€ข Knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT systems.
โ€ข Knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology.
โ€ข Ability to interpret medical terminology.
