ABOUT US

Atlas is a next-generation digital infrastructure and energy company. We operate large-scale data center infrastructure in North Dakota, Montana, Kentucky, and Texas. Our foundation is built on a rich family history in heavy industrial development, and we cut our data center teeth in crypto. Now weโ€™re building our team and executing against a new mandate โ€” build the infrastructure backbone of the new industrial revolution.

We measure success by the communities we build in, not just the compute we deliver.

Positive community impact matters to us โ€” and for us, impact means engaging with what communities actually care about. We invest where we operate, helping the places we call home forge ahead and play mission-critical roles in a new industrial frontier.

ABOUT YOU

You started your career in public accounting โ€” with at least a year at a Big 4 firm โ€” and youโ€™re ready to take that technical foundation into a fast-moving, growth-stage company. You understand debits and credits, but more importantly you understand why they matter. Youโ€™re comfortable with a close process, reconciliations, and supporting an external audit, and you want a role where your work directly shapes a companyโ€™s financial infrastructure at an exciting stage of growth. Youโ€™re an innovative problem solver who gets things done with quality and speed, and you treat continuous learning as a daily practice. You communicate clearly and effectively โ€” in writing and in person โ€” and you have a strong command of accounting principles and financial processes. You can pivot priorities as critical issues arise, youโ€™re self-driven in both autonomous and highly collaborative settings, and you want a positive culture where employees are engaged and helping define the digital asset revolution.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Youโ€™ll work closely with the CFO and Controller to build and maintain accounting processes that scale with the company.

Month-End Close & General Accounting

ยท Participate in the monthly and quarterly close โ€” prepare and post journal entries including accruals, prepaid amortization, and recurring entries.

ยท Prepare and maintain account reconciliations, ensuring sub-ledger balances tie to the general ledger and bank statements.

ยท Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records and financial reports for accuracy, completeness, and conformance to GAAP and company standards.

ยท Review accounts for discrepancies and reconcile differences in a timely manner.

ยท Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages.

ยท Maintain and update the chart of accounts; assign entries to proper accounts.

Fixed Assets & Accounts Payable

ยท Maintain the fixed asset subledger โ€” record additions, disposals, and transfers; calculate and post depreciation per company capitalization policy.

ยท Process and code vendor invoices for payment; ensure proper approval and documentation prior to disbursement.

ยท Support accounts payable including vendor setup, payment runs, and reconciliation of vendor statements.

Audit & Compliance Support

ยท Prepare audit support schedules and respond to auditor requests (PBC list) during the annual external audit.

ยท Inspect accounting systems and records for efficiency, effectiveness, and use of accepted procedures.

ยท Support the development and maintenance of internal controls documentation.

ยท Assist with tax preparation by organizing financial data for external advisors; support state and federal reporting compliance.

Industry-Specific Accounting

ยท Support accounting processes specific to data center infrastructure โ€” energy cost allocation, hosting contract revenue recognition, and digital asset accounting.

ยท Help build and maintain accounting procedures as the company expands across additional states and facilities.

General Support

ยท Direct the activities of vendors engaged in recording, compiling, and transmitting financial records.

ยท Support cash management including reviewing disbursement requests in accordance with company policy.

ยท Provide accounting support and guidance to other organizational units as needed.

This job description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities, or qualifications associated with the position. Other duties may be assigned.

COMPETENCIES

ยท Working knowledge of US GAAP; ability to apply accounting standards to day-to-day transactions.

ยท Strong reconciliation and analytical skills; attention to detail in a high-volume environment.

ยท ERP proficiency (NetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, or similar); willingness to learn and optimize systems.

ยท Advanced Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas); financial reporting tools a plus.

ยท Ability to support the external audit process, including PBC schedule preparation.

ยท Strong critical thinking โ€” able to identify discrepancies, trace root causes, and propose solutions.

ยท Excellent communication across all levels of the organization.

ยท Ability to organize, plan, and prioritize work in a fast-moving, growth-stage environment.

ยท Self-driven; able to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

ยท CPA required (active license, or actively pursuing with completion within 6 months of hire).

ยท Bachelorโ€™s degree in Accounting strongly preferred; Finance or related field considered.

ยท Minimum 3 years of accounting experience.

ยท Minimum 1 year of Big 4, or equivalent, experience in an audit role.

ยท Experience with ERP systems required (NetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, or equivalent); implementation or optimization experience a plus.

ยท Other combinations of education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

ยท Public company audit exposure highly preferred.

ยท Experience or interest in energy, data center, digital assets, utilities, or other capital-intensive industries.

ยท ERP implementation or optimization experience.

ยท Experience with fixed asset accounting in a capital-intensive environment.

ยท Familiarity with digital asset accounting standards and evolving guidance.

ยท Multi-state tax and compliance exposure.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

ยท Fully remote; employees maintain a professional home office environment.

ยท Must be able to perform the mental functions necessary to complete essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation.

ยท Effective communication via video, phone, and written channels across a distributed team.

ยท Deadline-driven role: month-end close, quarterly reporting, and annual audit create predictable periods of higher intensity.

Target annual bonus (discretionary)
