Job description

The Center for Victims of Torture is hiring a Part-Time Psychotherapist (24 hours per week) to provide psychological assessment and treatment to survivors of torture and their family members. Psychotherapy services are provided in the context of an interdisciplinary team. The Psychotherapist provides individual therapy as well as group therapy.

Position open to:

  • Candidates located in the U.S. who are authorized to work in U.S. and will not need CVT to sponsor them on a work visa.

Remote status:

  • Position is partially remote. 40% in-office in St. Cloud, Minnesota and 60% remote.

Responsibilities:

  • Psychotherapy: Conduct initial interviews and make diagnosis of psychiatric disorders. Conduct individual psychotherapy sessions at a frequency determined with the client. Conduct group therapy sessions. Assist clients with political asylum claims by occasionally writing psychological asylum reports and supporting the client as appropriate.
  • Documentation: Complete clinic paperwork including session chart notes, psychological assessment reports, treatment plans, and closing treatment summaries. Complete databases and assessment measures on clients. Prepare treatment plans and other necessary documentation for clinic records and third-party reimbursement needs.
  • Interdisciplinary Team and Partner Collaboration: Work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team context. Provide input to team members regarding clientโ€™s psychological progress and seek input from others about related treatment needs. Offer written and oral expert testimony related to the psychological effects of torture. Help staff the Information & Referral team on a rotational basis. Participate in all case consultation meetings.
  • Community Training and Events: Represent CVT in various settings including professional and community events at the local, state, and national level. Lead and facilitate community trainings for professionals and community members on topics such as the impact of trauma and torture, self-care, and mental health.

Qualifications:

Required education, experience, certificates, licenses or registrations

  • MA or PhD/PsyD in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or related field
  • License-eligible as an LP, LICSW or LMFT in Minnesota
  • 1+ years of experience providing mental health services, including treatment of survivors of trauma

Preferred education, experience, certificates, licenses or registrations

  • Licensed as an LP, LICSW or LMFT in Minnesota
  • At least 3 years of post-degree experience providing psychological services, including treatment of survivors of trauma
  • Experience working professionally with refugees, asylum seekers or immigrants
  • Experience providing psychological services via an interpreter
  • Fluent in Somali
  • Knowledge of evidence-based and relationship-based therapy models
  • Formal training and experience in clinical mental health assessment, including the use of measures in practice and/or research
