Summary
To serve the members of Samaritan Ministries International (SMI) by performing duties acting as a liaison between members of Samaritan Ministries and healthcare providers, including negotiating prices, investigating and resolving provider related issues, building relationships with providers, and gathering information on need issues from providers when direct contact is required. In addition, PR Specialists assist members in making cost effective and fair priced medical provider choices, and help ensure that member shares are used exclusively for appropriate shareable medical expenses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Negotiate fair prices with providers on behalf of Samaritan members
  • Educate providers on Samaritan Ministries to get service for members
  • Work as a liaison for SMI by conducting need/bill reviews, and data gathering
  • Graciously investigate situations where a member may have misused funds and, when applicable, work with the member to recover the funds
  • Serve as the initial contact for potential agreements with provider
  • Be available for providers who wish to speak with SMI about questions or concerns that they have
  • Initiate payment plans for members when necessary to repay the Membership
  • Work through concerning billing situations for the purpose of assisting in members' payment of bills to their provider
  • Correspond through phone and email in a professional, friendly, and knowledgeable manner with health care providers and SMI members.
  • Maintain current knowledge of SMI sharing programs, products, program guidelines, and processes.
  • Assist and /or lead special projects to improve team processes that ensures thoughtful and efficient growth to cultivate a better member experience and savings for the ministry.
  • Provide Christ-centered encouragement and grace filled counsel to members and providers.
  • Coordinate member and ministry business and workflows with various third party vendors utilized by the ministry to serve members.
  • Pray for members and participate in team prayer meetings

Qualifications and Experience
  • Two-year degree from an accredited university or the equivalent combination of education and experience. (College diploma)
  • Prior healthcare, sales, or customer service experience preferred.
  • Staff are required to possess applicable knowledge to bring value to SMI in this role, know and utilize resources well, ask questions to ensure full understanding, gain and retain knowledge to keep up with changes, and accept and engage with training to grow knowledge for current and future responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of SMI Programs and Guidelines
  • Knowledge of SMI Internal Policies and Procedures (Intermediate) (particularly the needs processing and billing processes (Intermediate))
  • Knowledge of Healthcare common practices and terminology

Additional Information
  • Tasks are normally conducted in a regular office environment, requiring use of computer and mouse and other standard office equipment. Staff usually remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods. If an other than on-location work situation is approved (i.e. hybrid or remote), the employee must work in an appropriately professional and secure environment.
  • Staff will observe safety principles while performing the duties of the position.
  • May need to lift and move items up to 35 lbs on occasion.
  • Staff must perform work in a dedicated space that is free from distractions and interruptions, where others cannot view their work or overhear conversations.
  • Remote Staff must have an approved internet speed, latency, and jitter by the SMI IT Department.
  • Staff will be provided with equipment that is necessary for the position, and the equipment is unable to be used for non-business uses.
  • Remote staff are unable to operate as a primary caregiver while working remotely. Primary caregiver is defined as when a staff member is operating as the primary responsible person in a home with children under age 14 or providing care to anyone needing intermittent or constant attention and/or supervision.
  • Staff are encouraged to keep cameras on during virtual meetings to foster engagement, enhance communication, and strengthen team rapport.

Pay Range: $19.70-$27.20 Starting pay usually falls within the lower half of the pay range and is determined by experience, skills, and education.
