What is remote property management?

Remote property management is the practice of overseeing and maintaining rental properties from a distance, without being physically present at the property location. This can be done using digital tools, such as property management software, virtual tours, and online communication platforms, to handle tasks like tenant screening, rent collection, maintenance coordination, and responding to tenant inquiries. Remote property managers often work with local vendors or on-site staff to address issues that require a physical presence. This approach enables landlords and property managers to efficiently manage properties in different locations, save time, and reduce the need for on-site visits.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote property manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Property Manager, you need strong organizational skills, knowledge of property management practices, and typically a background in real estate or property management certification. Familiarity with property management software (such as AppFolio or Buildium), virtual communication tools, and online payment systems is essential. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and time management skills help build trust with tenants and owners while efficiently handling issues from a distance. These abilities ensure smooth operations, tenant satisfaction, and effective oversight of properties without being physically on-site.

What are the main challenges faced by property managers working remotely, and how can they be addressed?

Remote property managers often face challenges such as coordinating maintenance or repairs from a distance, ensuring clear communication with tenants and contractors, and staying organized across multiple properties. Utilizing reliable property management software and digital communication tools can help streamline operations and maintain strong relationships with both tenants and service providers. Regular virtual check-ins and clear protocols for handling emergencies are also crucial for effective remote management.

CRE Liquidity & Deposit Solutions Market LeadManaging Director | U.S. Commercial Real EstateAbout the Role

The CRE Liquidity & Deposit Solutions Market Lead is a senior, client-facing role within CIBC's U.S. Commercial Real Estate platform. This position serves as the central subject matter expert and strategic connector across CIBC's CRE deposit portfolio, working alongside Client Managers and Treasury Management Advisors to deepen depository relationships, develop new business in high-value segments, and drive coordinated client solutions across internal partners.

This is a high-visibility, individual contributor role requiring proven deposit growth experience, credit fluency, and the entrepreneurial drive to operate with independence and ownership in a complex, cross-functional environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • New Business Development - Lead prospecting and business development efforts targeting deposit-intensive CRE segments, including 1031 Exchange, EB-5 and Brokerage escrow providers, Rental Property Management companies, and Mortgage Servicing Companies.
  • Share of Wallet Optimization - Protect, deepen, and expand CIBC's depository relationships across the CRE portfolio, maintaining a proactive, portfolio-wide view of client needs, competitive vulnerabilities, and untapped growth opportunities.
  • Client Advisory Enablement - Provide client-specific context and subject matter expertise that enables CRE client-facing teams to tailor deposit and treasury solutions effectively across credit structuring, interest rate sensitivities, and connectivity requirements.
  • Client Feedback Synthesis & Advocacy - Gather and synthesize feedback from clients and prospects on CIBC's product and technology capabilities relative to peers, and advocate internally for enhancements that unlock deposit growth.
  • Strategic Portfolio Oversight & Executive Reporting - Conduct ongoing portfolio analysis to identify concentration risks, growth opportunities, and underpenetrated segments, and deliver executive-level recommendations to CRE senior leadership.
Required Experience & Qualifications
  • 15+ years of client-facing commercial banking experience, with a meaningful portion focused on deposit-intensive CRE segments.
  • Direct, client-facing relationship management experience in one or more deposit-intensive CRE segments, including 1031 Exchange, EB-5 or Brokerage escrow, Rental Property Management companies, or Mortgage Servicing Companies.
  • Demonstrated experience building or launching a specialty deposit practice in one or more of these segments - going beyond relationship management to include ownership of program strategy, business development, and growth execution.
  • Demonstrated track record of deposit growth in environments where commercial deposit gathering was a primary performance metric.
  • Proven ability to independently prospect, develop, and close new deposit relationships without reliance on an existing institutional client base.
  • Working familiarity with Treasury Management products and client requirements, sufficient to engage credibly with clients and coordinate effectively with internal TM partners.
  • Experience collaborating across multiple internal teams - including operations, product, treasury management and credit - to deliver coordinated client solutions.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience; completion of a recognized commercial banking or lending program is a plus.
  • Professional proficiency in English required; bilingual capability is a plus.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate is a seasoned CRE banker who has not only managed large deposit relationships but has built a CRE-specific deposit practice. Beyond technical qualifications, we are looking for:
  • Entrepreneurial drive and ownership mentality - a self-starter who identifies opportunities independently and drives execution with minimal oversight.
  • Executive presence - calm, structured thinking and confident stakeholder communication in high-stakes, time-sensitive situations.
  • Proactive risk anticipation - a natural instinct to identify potential points of failure before they reach the client, and the initiative to act early.
Location
Remote / Hybrid - with regular travel to CIBC's Chicago headquarters to maintain relationships with key internal stakeholders across CRE, Treasury Management, and Commercial Banking leadership.
