What is remote proofreading?

Remote proofreading is the process of reviewing and correcting written documents for errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and formatting, while working from a location outside of a traditional office environment. Remote proofreaders use digital tools to edit content for businesses, publishers, authors, and other clients. This job offers flexibility, allowing professionals to work from home or anywhere with internet access. It requires strong attention to detail, excellent language skills, and the ability to meet deadlines. Remote proofreading can be done on a freelance, part-time, or full-time basis.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote proofreader?

To thrive as a Remote Proofreader, you need excellent command of grammar, spelling, and punctuation, often supported by a degree in English, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with editing software like Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and style guides such as AP or Chicago Manual of Style is typical. Attention to detail, time management, and strong written communication are crucial soft skills for this role. These competencies ensure high-quality, error-free documents and efficient collaboration with clients or editorial teams in a remote environment.

What are some common challenges faced by remote proofreaders, and how can they be managed effectively?

Remote proofreaders often encounter challenges such as maintaining focus over extended periods, meeting tight deadlines, and navigating varying client expectations. Working remotely requires strong self-discipline and excellent time management skills to ensure thorough, error-free work without supervision. To overcome these challenges, it's helpful to establish a dedicated, distraction-free workspace, set clear daily goals, and communicate proactively with clients or team members to clarify requirements. Staying updated on style guides and using digital proofreading tools can also improve efficiency and accuracy.

What is the difference between Remote Proofreading vs Remote Copy Editing?

AspectRemote ProofreadingRemote Copy Editing
CredentialsTypically requires proofreading certifications or strong language skillsOften requires editing certifications or experience in editing
Work EnvironmentIndependent, often freelance or remoteSimilar remote setup, may involve collaboration with writers or publishers
Industry UsageUsed across publishing, academic, and business sectorsCommon in publishing, marketing, and content creation
Search/Comparison IntentPeople compare to understand scope and skillsOften compared to proofreading for clarity on editing depth

Remote proofreading focuses on identifying and correcting grammatical, spelling, and punctuation errors, ensuring text accuracy. Remote copy editing involves deeper revisions, including style, tone, and structure improvements. While both roles require strong language skills and often similar credentials, copy editing typically demands a more comprehensive editing process. Both jobs are performed remotely and are common in publishing and content industries, but they serve different stages of the editing process.

Are remote proofreading jobs legit?

Remote proofreading jobs are legitimate opportunities that involve reviewing and correcting written content from home. However, job seekers should verify the employer's credibility, avoid scams that ask for upfront payments, and ensure the role aligns with industry standards for skills and tools such as style guides and editing software.

How do I become a remote proofreader?

To become a remote proofreader, you should develop strong language and grammar skills, often through a relevant degree or certification. Gaining experience with editing tools and building a portfolio can improve job prospects, and many remote proofreaders work independently or through freelance platforms. Consistent attention to detail and good time management are essential for success in this role.

Is there a demand for remote proofreaders?

Remote proofreaders are in steady demand as many companies and publishers seek online editing and proofreading services. The role often requires strong language skills, attention to detail, and familiarity with editing tools, making it a viable remote job option with flexible schedules.

Job description

Direct Response Copywriter for Truvani
Remote (U.S.-based required) | Full-Time | Reports to: Senior Creative Strategist, Performance Advertising
Compensation: $75,000-$105,000 base, based on experience | Immediate hire
WHO WE ARE
Truvani makes products without toxins, and labels without lies. Founded on one simple belief - that the ingredients in your food and supplements shouldn't require a chemistry degree to understand - we build clean, honest health and wellness products and back every one of them up with real transparency.
Most brands say they're clean. We actually mean it. And we're looking for people who feel the same way about the work they put their name on.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Truvani is hiring a Direct Response Copywriter to write the ad copy, hooks, scripts, and campaigns that turn strangers into customers - across Meta, YouTube, email, and social. You'll work hand-in-hand with our Senior Creative Strategist and the in-house creative team, taking a brief from concept to a finished, publish-ready script or ad in your own voice.
You are curious about why people buy-not just what looks good. You understand how consumer psychology, persuasive messaging, brand trust, creative craft, and media performance work together. You can write in a range of tones without losing Truvani's voice.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Write what converts. Write ad copy, hooks, scripts, and creative briefs for Meta, YouTube, and other paid channels, seeing each concept through from idea to finished asset.
  • Own the concept. Take ad concepts from idea to execution - writing the copy, briefing designers and video editors, and working with creators to bring scripts to life on camera.
  • Write beyond the ad. Write email campaigns, social captions, product copy, and other brand content, ensuring Truvani's voice stays consistent everywhere it shows up.
  • Protect the voice. Serve as a steward of Truvani's brand voice across every piece of copy you touch, no matter the channel or format.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally. Partner closely with the Senior Creative Strategist, designers, video editors, and product and marketing teams to bring campaigns to life on deadline.
  • Test and iterate. Use performance data (CTR, hook rate, CPA) and customer feedback to refine messaging, kill what isn't working, and double down on what is.
  • Stay sharp. Track direct-response classics, competitor advertising, and category trends to keep your copy sharp and your angles fresh.

WHAT YOU BRING
  • 3+ years of copywriting experience, with a proven track record of driving traffic, engagement, or conversions through Meta, Instagram, or other paid ad channels.
  • Deep, applied knowledge of direct-response and consumer-psychology principles (think Schwartz, Ogilvy, Halbert, Breakthrough Advertising) - you can explain why a piece of copy works, not just that it does.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate long-standing direct-response principles into short-form, scroll-stopping content for today's feeds.
  • Excellent writing, storytelling, and editing skills, with the range to write in different tones without losing the brand's voice.
  • A portfolio of 2-3 pieces of copy you've written, ideally with the performance results you can speak to.
  • Comfort working across multiple campaigns and projects at once without dropping a thread.
  • Experience in health, wellness, supplements, or CPG is a strong plus, but a genuine interest in the category is required.
  • Based in the United States and able to work core U.S. business hours; this is a remote role, but it is not open to candidates located outside the U.S.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
During your first six months, you will:
  • Develop a strong command of Truvani's brand voice across ads, email, and social
  • Ship a steady weekly cadence of new ad concepts, hooks, and scripts
  • Build a working library of high-performing copy and hooks the team can draw from
  • Sharpen messaging based on test results and customer feedback
  • Strengthen collaboration with the Senior Creative Strategist, designers, and video editors
  • Contribute copy beyond paid ads - email, social, and product content as needed
  • Earn a reputation across the team as a fast, reliable, on-brand writer

SALARY AND BENEFITS
  • Base salary of $75,000-$105,000, based on relevant experience
  • Health benefits available after 60 days
  • 401(k) benefits with employer matching available after 60 days
  • Paid time off and paid holidays
  • Paid family leave
  • Remote work stipend
  • Education and professional-development stipend
  • Monthly Truvani store credit
  • Fully remote work within the United States

HOW TO APPLY
Please submit:
  • Your rรฉsumรฉ and link to LinkedIn profile
  • A portfolio or links to 2-3 pieces of copy that showcase your skill
  • A brief explanation of your contribution to each example
  • Relevant performance context, if available
