What Is the Job of Remote Project Managers?

Remote project managers coordinate tasks to complete a plan of action for their employer. Working on a team, the remote project manager creates plans, delegates responsibilities, supervises employees, and implements the project. As a remote project manager, you may go on-site to oversee the progress of the staff, but most of your planning and administrative work occurs outside of the office. You may work from home or from another location of your choice with Wi-Fi connectivity. Other job duties include creating a timeline and budget; once the project is underway, you monitor each step to ensure the project runs on time and does not overspend.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Project Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Project Manager, you need strong project management expertise, organizational skills, and often a degree in business or a related field, with certifications like PMP or Agile/Scrum being highly valued. Proficiency in project management software such as Asana, Trello, or Microsoft Project, along with collaboration platforms like Slack and Zoom, is essential. Exceptional communication, self-motivation, and problem-solving skills help you lead dispersed teams and keep projects on track. These abilities ensure that remote teams remain productive, meet deadlines, and achieve project goals despite physical distance.

How does a Remote Project Manager effectively collaborate with distributed teams across different time zones?

Remote Project Managers often work with teams spread across various locations and time zones, which requires strong communication and organizational skills. They typically use project management tools and scheduling platforms to coordinate meetings, track progress, and ensure everyone stays aligned. Clear documentation, asynchronous updates, and flexible meeting times are essential for maintaining momentum and addressing challenges promptly. Building trust and fostering open communication also help minimize misunderstandings and keep projects on track.

They coordinate teams, manage timelines, and ensure that project goals are met, all through digital communication and collaboration tools. Remote Project Managers must be adept at virtual leadership, problem-solving, and maintaining clear communication across distributed teams. Job description

Who We Are

Atwell, LLC is a bold leader in the consulting, engineering, and construction services industry, delivering a broad range of creative solutions to clients in the real estate & land development, and energy markets. We have a strong national presence and a diverse, award-winning project portfolio. Atwell is a privately owned company, with 2,000+ passionate team members across 75+ locations and growing!

Atwell, LLC is a proud recipient of the following 2025 awards:

  • Ten consecutive years in a row as a "Best Place to Work" by Zweig Group (#11)
  • Recognized as #70 in the ENR Top 500 Design Firms, ranked in every region
  • Recognized in Crain's "Fast 50" as one of the fastest-growing companies (#14)
  • Recognized as the 2025 ENR Design Firm of the year for the Southeastern US

Atwell is seeking a remote Project Coordinator to support our Land Solutions team, with a strong emphasis on title review, land research, and due diligence across right-of-way and infrastructure projects.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys digging into records, connecting the dots across property ownership, and ensuring accuracy in land documentation. You'll play a critical role behind the scenes—supporting Project Managers and field teams by validating land data, organizing documentation, and helping keep projects moving forward with confidence.

You'll work closely with internal teams including Project Managers, Land Agents, GIS, and Document Management, contributing to projects across energy, utilities, and infrastructure.

Project Coordination & Research Support

  • Support Project Managers with project setup, tracking, and reporting
  • Organize and maintain project files, contracts, and land documentation in internal systems (Vision, shared drives, etc.)
  • Coordinate across teams (Land, GIS, Document Management, Payment Services) to ensure alignment on data and deliverables
  • Assist with parcel identification, landowner research, and contact validation
  • Track project progress, flag issues, and help ensure timelines and deliverables are met

Data & Document Quality

  • Perform quality control reviews on land documents and project data
  • Ensure consistency and compliance with client requirements and Atwell standards
  • Maintain organized, audit-ready project files and documentation
  • Support document workflows, including contracts, invoices, and deliverables

Communication & Team Support

  • Participate in internal and client calls, capturing notes and action items
  • Support preparation of project updates, reports, and meeting materials
  • Communicate clearly with internal teams to keep projects aligned and moving

What We're Looking For

  • 3+ years of experience in land, right-of-way, title, real estate, or a related field
  • Strong experience with title research, deed review, and land records analysis
  • Familiarity with county courthouse research, legal descriptions, and ownership structures
  • Experience supporting infrastructure, utility, or energy projects is a plus
  • Highly detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and organization
  • Comfortable working across multiple systems (Excel, document management tools, GIS platforms preferred)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally

Preferred Background

  • Bachelor's degree in Real Estate, Land Management, Surveying, Environmental, or related field preferred
  • Experience supporting right-of-way or land acquisition projects
  • Exposure to tools like Vision, GIS platforms, or land management systems
