JOB SUMMARY: The Automation Engineer II, reporting to the Manager, Automation and AI, is a developing contributor on our Scrum teams who designs, builds, and maintains automation solutions that streamline business and engineering processes across Trinity's technology landscape. Building on a foundational skillset, you will develop cloud-native, event-driven workflows using AWS serverless services (Lambda, Step Functions), integrate AI and agentic automation tools, and connect internal and third-party systems through APIs. You are expected to work with increasing independence while continuing to grow your technical depth. The role is grounded in our Company’s Core Values:?

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Automation Development
  1. Design, build, test, and maintain automation workflows and integrations with minimal supervision.
  2. Develop serverless, event-driven solutions using AWS Lambda, Step Functions, EventBridge, and related services.
  3. Write clean, reusable, well-tested automation code (e.g., Python, TypeScript).
  4. Troubleshoot and debug automation pipelines to maintain reliability, performance, and observability.
AI & Agentic Workflows
  1. Build agentic and AI-driven automation that orchestrates tasks across multiple systems and tools.
  2. Integrate AI automation platforms and APIs (e.g., ElevenLabs, OpenAI/Claude, speech and document tooling) into business workflows.
  3. Build and consume RESTful APIs and webhooks to connect internal and third-party systems.
  4. Write efficient SQL queries and unit/integration tests for automation components.
Team & Process
  1. Actively participate in all Scrum ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
  2. Collaborate with teammates across disciplines to deliver functional, performant solutions.
  3. Conduct code reviews independently and offer constructive feedback to peers.
  4. Apply secure coding practices and maintain awareness of common vulnerabilities (e.g., OWASP Top 10).
  5. Participate in on-call rotation and assist in production incident response under senior guidance.
  6. Maintain clear technical documentation for features and services owned.
  7. Works with manager to set and pursue quarterly development goals.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Education: BA/BS (4-year degree) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  2. Experience: 1 – 3 years of professional software development experience, or demonstrated equivalent competency.
  3. Programming: Working proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript/JavaScript for automation and scripting.
  4. Cloud/Serverless: Hands-on experience with AWS, especially serverless and event-driven services (Lambda, Step Functions, EventBridge); familiarity with Docker.
  5. Database: Working knowledge of relational databases and SQL.
  6. AI Automation: Exposure to building agentic workflows and integrating AI automation tools/APIs (e.g., ElevenLabs, OpenAI/Claude).
  7. APIs: Experience building or consuming RESTful APIs.
  8. Process: Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
  9. Tools: Proficiency with Git, Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket.
