The Montana State University Alumni Foundation is seeking an objective, detail-oriented Database Reporting Analyst to join our collaborative team in a flexible hybrid or remote role. In this position, you will be producing accurate, dependable data and meaningful insights that help strengthen lifelong relationships, support fundraising efforts, and advance the mission of Montana State University.

Administrator: Director, Reporting & Analytics

Preferred Experience: 2+ years of experience inSQL programming and SQL Server databases; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Education Required: Baccalaureate Degreeincomputer science, computer engineering, information systems / technology, or relatedDegree with relevant experience.

Overtime Status: Exempt, not eligible for overtime

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


TheDatabase Reporting Analystfor the Montana State UniversityAlumniFoundation ("AlumniFoundation")isprimarilyresponsible forfulfillmentof targeted data and reportrequests frombothexternal Montana State University("University")partners, and internal Alumni Foundationteam members.TheDatabase Reporting Analystreports to theDirector,Reporting & Analytics, Advancement Services Team.


Anticipated distribution of time and effort are outlined below:

Manage and fulfill data and information requests fromUniversitypartners and internal Alumni Foundation team members.

Develop ad hoc and self-serve reports.

Design/Maintain/Perform regular data extract, transform, and load operations ("ETL") using SQL Server Integration Services ("SSIS").

SPECIFICDUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES:


  1. Assistwithdata and information requests (i.e.list requests) to external University partnersand manage all request-related communications.
  2. Assist with data and report requests by collaborating with other members of the Advancement Services team.
  3. Provide quality assurance for reporting outputs by validating data accuracy, reviewing query logic, documenting assumptions, and ensuring appropriate handling of confidential constituent, donor, and institutional information.
  4. Collaborate on reporting and integration-related work involving SQL Server, Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services, Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services, and other reporting or data tools used by the Alumni Foundation.
  5. Develop, document, and disseminate targeted best practices and standard operating procedures ("SOP's") related to the fulfillment of targeted data and information requests from the Alumni Foundation database.
  6. Support database management and data cleanup procedures by identifying data quality issues and recommending corrective actions.
  7. Implement existing procedures and develop new SQL-based queries and procedures to fulfill targeted data requests, reporting needs, and data ETLs.
  8. Utilize Visual Studio for various development tasks and integrating with SSRS projects.
  9. Identify database-related improvement opportunities and collaborate with members of the Advancement Services team to develop and implement solutions.
  10. Affect and maintain a professional, proactive, positive, highly collaborative, and performance-centric work environment.
  11. Other duties, as assigned by the Director, Reporting & Analytics.

SPECIAL SKILLS ANDQUALIFICATIONS:


  1. Understanding ofand experience withtheSQL Server query development and the Microsoft SQL Server/BI stack, including SSMS, Visual Studio Data Tools, SSRS, SSIS, complex joins, stored procedures, query validation, and performance considerations.
  2. General programming and database administration experience helpful.
  3. Experience developing documentation, SOPs, data definitions, reporting standards, and quality-control practices.
  4. Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment while remaining helpful, pleasant, and courteous.
  5. Complete respect for confidentiality and sound judgment in handling sensitive constituent, donor, institutional, and partner data.
  6. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, analytical judgment, and commitment to data accuracy.
  7. Experience developing and maintaining solutions using Microsoft Power Platform components (Power BI Desktop, Power Automate, and Power Apps) is a plus.
