What is a Remote Project Manager 1099?

A Remote Project Manager 1099 is an independent contractor who oversees projects for organizations while working remotely, rather than as a full-time employee. The '1099' refers to the IRS tax form used in the United States for reporting payments made to independent contractors. These project managers are responsible for planning, executing, and closing projects, coordinating with teams and stakeholders online. Because they are contractors, they typically manage their own taxes and benefits, and may work for multiple clients at once.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Project Manager 1099, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Project Manager 1099, you need strong project management experience, organizational skills, and a proven ability to deliver projects independently, typically supported by a bachelor’s degree and relevant certifications like PMP. Familiarity with project management tools such as Asana, Trello, or Microsoft Project, as well as proficiency in virtual collaboration platforms, is essential. Exceptional communication, self-motivation, and adaptability are crucial soft skills for coordinating remote teams and stakeholders.
