Remote Project Manager 1099 information

What is a remote project manager 1099?

A Remote Project Manager 1099 is an independent contractor who oversees projects for organizations while working remotely, rather than as a full-time employee. The '1099' refers to the IRS tax form used in the United States for reporting payments made to independent contractors. These project managers are responsible for planning, executing, and closing projects, coordinating with teams and stakeholders online. Because they are contractors, they typically manage their own taxes and benefits, and may work for multiple clients at once.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote project manager 1099?

To thrive as a Remote Project Manager 1099, you need strong project management experience, organizational skills, and a proven ability to deliver projects independently, typically supported by a bachelor’s degree and relevant certifications like PMP. Familiarity with project management tools such as Asana, Trello, or Microsoft Project, as well as proficiency in virtual collaboration platforms, is essential. Exceptional communication, self-motivation, and adaptability are crucial soft skills for coordinating remote teams and stakeholders. These abilities enable efficient project execution, maintain stakeholder alignment, and ensure successful outcomes in a flexible, independent contractor environment.

Job description

Power Project Manager/Engineer
Guidant Power | Engineering services by Morrow Engineering | Wichita, KS or Colorado Springs, CO | Remote consideredAbout Us
Guidant Power delivers electrical safety, reliability, engineering, and training services to leading companies across North America, serving clients in 47 states and counting. Our engineering services are powered by Morrow Engineering, a Guidant Power company providing electrical engineering for industrial power systems since 1986, with over 7,000 studies completed for national clients in food and beverage, manufacturing, energy, data centers, and logistics. You will work alongside Guidant sister companies in arc flash analysis, infrared thermography, and electrical safety training. The Role
We are hiring a Power Project Manager/Engineer to run electrical power projects with minimal oversight, on a team too small to hide in and too busy to micromanage you. You will own project execution from kickoff through final deliverable: scoping site visits, directing data collection and junior engineering support, performing the analysis, writing the report or issuing the design package, and communicating directly with the client. Licensed PEs review and seal final deliverables, but the project is yours to run. This role fits an engineer who wants project ownership now, and if you are pursuing your PE, we will fund the path. What You Will Do
  • Manage assigned power system study and design projects end to end: scope, schedule, budget, and client communication
  • Perform and check arc flash, short circuit, and coordination studies in ETAP, SKM Power*Tools, and EasyPower
  • Direct the work of entry level engineers supporting your projects, and review their models, drawings, and reports for technical accuracy
  • Lead field data collection efforts at industrial and commercial sites, including energized data gathering under NFPA 70E procedures (15 to 25 percent travel)
  • Prepare and review project documents including equipment and installation specifications and bid packages
  • Manage change orders, scope adjustments, and client purchase order requirements on active projects
  • Coordinate subcontractors and vendors, including electrical contractors, NETA testing firms, and equipment suppliers, and chase down vendor drawings and submittals
  • Provide construction-phase support: RFI responses, submittal reviews, and field questions on issued designs
  • Present findings and recommendations directly to client maintenance, engineering, and EHS staff
  • Support proposal development with scoping input and level of effort estimates
What We Are Looking For
  • BS in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • 5 or more years running electrical or power projects, with hands on work in industrial or commercial power systems
  • Demonstrated project management ability: multiple concurrent deadlines, direct client contact, subcontractors, and deliverable quality without close supervision
  • PE license, or actively working toward it, is a strong plus (we pay exam and licensure costs and support multi state licensure)
  • Experience with ETAP, SKM Power*Tools, or EasyPower is a plus;
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards including NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 70B, OSHA, IEEE, and ANSI
  • Comfortable in industrial environments and with client facing site work
  • Eligible to work in the U.S. and able to pass client background checks

Bonus points for:
  • Data center or mission-critical facility experience
  • Standby power, UPS, ATS, or redundant distribution work
  • N+1/2N redundancy and reliability-driven design

What We Offer
  • Competitive salary ($90k+ based off of experience) and benefits including health insurance, 401(k), and paid time off
  • Paid licensure support and multi state PE registration costs
  • Real project ownership and direct client relationships from day one
  • A national platform: work across studies, design, and construction support for enterprise clients
