Where you come in

We are seeking an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead one or two teams of software engineers. The ideal candidate will be proficient in modern software development practices and architectures, with a strong background in modern back-end and service-oriented architectures, software design principles, cloud infrastructure and devops/site reliability concepts. Prior experience managing remote teams, building strong relationships, and operational leadership is crucial. This is a remote role but we are looking for someone to be based in the Pacific North West(Washington / British Columbia / Oregon) so applicants must have the right to work in Canada or USA without restriction.

The Role

As an Engineering Manager at Beatport, you will be a pivotal leader within our technology division, driving the development and delivery of software that enhances the digital DJ experience. The engineers reporting to this role are responsible for building and operating our platform services, upon which all aspects of our business rely. This role is tasked with ensuring the Platform team runs smoothly, prioritizes correctly, and pushes only the highest quality changes and features to our services platform.

You will work closely with other engineering team leaders to foster innovation, efficiency, optimize platform usage, ensure uptime, and maintain the highest quality in product development.

This role will work closely with the VP of Engineering to assist resource planning, product planning, security auditing and other department level tasks throughout the year.

As an Engineering Manager, you are accountable for:

  • Team Leadership and Performance Management: Building, leading, and mentoring a team of software engineers to promote best practices and personal development. Coaching, pair programming, performance and growth monitoring, and leading by example in all situations. Identifying skill gaps on the team and organizing solutions with the VP of Engineering.
  • Project Execution: Assisting our product group in the planning, estimating, prioritizing, execution, and successful delivery of engineering projects on time, within budget, and according to specified quality standards.
  • Strategic Alignment: Ensuring projects and team efforts align with the broader goals and objectives set by the organization.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborating with other departments such as Product Management, Data Engineering, and Operations to ensure projects meet all requirements and organizational goals.
  • Risk Management: Proactively identifying potential risks and developing strategies to mitigate them, ensuring project stability and continuity.
  • Problem Solving: Leading debugging or problem-solving efforts with the team in group sessions, deep-diving on infrastructure setup and optimization, and digging into our software alongside your team members to help unblock them at critical junctions.

As an Engineering Manager, you will need:

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in software development,
  • At least 3 years in a leadership or management role, (i.e. being directly accountable for the output of others)
  • Proven track record of managing engineering teams and delivering technical projects successfully.
  • Strong understanding of software development methodologies, tools, and processes.
  • Proficiency in multiple modern programming languages and environments (e.g., Python, C#, JavaScript/TypeScript).
  • Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud) and infrastructure as code (Terraform).
  • Familiarity with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) practices.
  • Excellent leadership and team-building skills. Ideally you have had some experience as a mentor and/or coach to other engineers.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, capable of managing both upwards and downwards
  • Willingness to continuously learn and adapt to new technologies and challenges.
  • Passionate about electronic music and the culture surrounding it, aligning personal interests with the mission and values of Beatport.
  • Commitment to high ethical standards and promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace.
  • Eager to work in a collaborative environment and enthusiastic about fostering a positive team culture.

Our company is a hub of innovation, driven by a commitment to authenticity and a deep understanding of the music landscape.
