About the role:

Bixal is seeking a Principal Cloud & DevSecOps Architect to serve as a senior technical authority across our federal delivery programs. This role owns end-to-end cloud and DevSecOps architecture, drives platform strategy, and provides hands-on technical leadership to engineering teams. The ideal candidate is a deeply experienced architect and natural communicator who earns trust with clients and teams through technical credibility, and who can also contribute meaningfully to technical solutioning and proposal efforts when called upon.

This is a fully remote position. Must be legally authorized to work in the US. Bixal does not provide visa sponsorship.

Compensation:

The salary range for this role is $178,000 – $195,000. We make compensation decisions thoughtfully, considering your experience, the skills you bring, and our commitment to internal equity. Fairness and transparency are core to how we operate.

Responsibilities:

Business Development Support

  • Contribute to technical solutioning for select pursuits, helping shape win themes through architecture and delivery approach

  • Support technical proposal content and participate in client-facing discussions or presentations as needed

Enterprise Architecture & DevSecOps Strategy

  • Define and own cloud architecture and DevSecOps strategy across active delivery programs and new pursuits

  • Design secure, scalable, cloud-native platforms encompassing CI/CD, IaC, container orchestration, identity/access management, and observability

  • Establish architecture standards, reusable patterns, and technical governance aligned with federal security and compliance expectations (NIST/FISMA/FedRAMP)

Engineering Leadership & Modernization

  • Provide hands-on technical leadership through architecture reviews, design decisions, and mentoring of engineers

  • Lead modernization efforts including legacy-to-cloud migrations, platform hardening, automation, reliability improvements, and AI integration

  • Ensure solutions meet quality, performance, and compliance requirements across complex federal environments

  • Serve as a trusted technical voice with clients, communicating architecture decisions, trade-offs, and recommendations with clarity at all levels

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in cloud engineering, DevSecOps, platform engineering, SRE, or technical architecture

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field

  • Experience supporting and/or leading federal proposals with solutioning, writing, technical challenges, etc.

  • Demonstrated ownership of end-to-end cloud architecture and delivery outcomes in complex environments

  • Deep experience with one or more cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and modern DevOps practices including IaC, CI/CD, and containers/Kubernetes

  • Strong understanding of secure delivery and compliance-driven environments; ability to embed DevSecOps into the SDLC

  • Excellent communication skills, able to convey complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and/or enterprise architecture credentials

  • Experience working Databricks, Databricks certification, or experience setting up environments to integrate and work with Databricks.

  • Experience building reusable platform patterns that accelerate delivery across multiple teams

  • Active participation in DevSecOps or cloud communities, with recent thought leadership activities.
