Job description

Position Overview: As a Material Handling Testing Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of our material handling equipment solutions. You will be responsible for designing and conducting tests on various types of material handling equipment, analyzing test data, and recommending improvements to ensure product quality and compliance with industry standards. In this position, you will lead all development teams in launching Greenfield/Retrofit automated sites, working side by side with the Project Manager, the Systems Engineer, the Site Manager, automation and software suppliers, and external systems teams managing all facets of the interior automation installs within our customers' warehouses. They will support DCS's teams pre- and post- go-live to ensure a smooth transition.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Test Planning and Execution: Work with sales, project management, engineering and consulting to design and implement comprehensive test plans to evaluate the performance, durability, and safety of material handling equipment, including conveyors, sorters, singulators, automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS), robotic handling systems, and lift equipment. Augment User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and Operational Readiness Tests, working with site analysts, project managers, and super-users internal and from external OEM vendors to run all simulations and scripts required to support successful launches and turnovers.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Collect, analyze, and interpret test data, using statistical tools to identify trends, anomalies, or areas for improvement. Prepare detailed test reports and present findings to the engineering team and management.
  • Problem-Solving: Identify root causes of failures or performance issues and collaborate with design engineers to develop and test solutions. Implement corrective actions to improve product quality and performance.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all material handling equipment meets or exceeds industry standards, company quality criteria, and customer expectations. Participate in the development and revision of quality assurance policies and procedures.
  • Safety and Compliance: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry safety standards and regulatory requirements. Ensure all tests are conducted in compliance with customer standards, prioritizing the safety of personnel and equipment.
  • Collaboration and Support: Work closely with equipment suppliers, procurement, and quality assurance teams to integrate testing results into all phases of the product lifecycle. Provide technical support and training to manufacturing and field service teams as needed.
  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the continuous improvement of testing processes and methodologies. Stay informed about the latest testing technologies and industry trends to enhance testing efficiency and effectiveness.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in testing engineering, specifically with material handling equipment or similar industrial products.
  • Experience managing large systems and physical programs including PLC/WES/WCS conversions, launches, and automation go-lives.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in data analysis and statistical methods.
  • Proficient in using testing equipment, data acquisition systems, and related software tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills, capable of working in multidisciplinary teams and presenting technical information clearly.
  • Knowledge of industry safety standards and regulations related to material handling equipment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work in a fast-paced environment.

Working Conditions: This role is remote and involves working onsite during testing. Hands-on testing may require exposure to machinery, noise, and dust. Safety protocols must be strictly followed. Travel is required for field testing or to visit manufacturing sites and is estimated at 75%.
